Very Good Tripod - 01/19/2011

by Bryan from Pacific Northwest

I have owned this tripod for 2 years now. Used it on many hikes and in blinds. I used to use a similar Manfrotto tripod made of aluminum. I really appreciate the lighter weight after a 12 mile hike. This is very sturdy and does a good job of getting low to the ground. It becomes unstable if you try to use it lower than the center column height unless the center column stays at the center of the unit. I have used it as low as 6" and the legs mostly retracted. The column flips horizontally to clear the ground. I was laying on the legs because it would tip if I moved the column out to the legs perimeter. This is an unusual use in my opinion. If there is one thing I wish I had considered prior to purchase it would be the lever clamps. They don't slide in or out of the backpack bindings. I think a twist style clamp would work a little better. I also would like a hook under the center column to hang weight for added stability on windy days. I spent good money on this tripod and I think I received good value for that money.
