tripod legs - 12/23/2011

The legs are good.Probably not as good as the Carbon Fiber ones, but a lot more affordable. It gets to be a little heavy carrying the spotting scope attached to the legs. Ok if you're carrying it just for a short distance.

Big Solid Tripod - 05/21/2011

by Josh from US

This tripod is a bit of a pain to carry around, but it's worth it, considering the superior stability they offer. The only time I've experienced shaking while using these legs was when I lowered the legs down so my brother (5'10" maybe)could look through my scope and then raised the center column to my height (6'10") in heavy wind. I also appreciate how easy they are to use, with the quick lock, grips, and multiple hooks. As far as transportation, I was able to rig my backpack so that I could hang it from one of the legs with three carabiners. Anyway, I'm sure you can find a way. Just be creative. Or buy a tripod carrier. Whichever you prefer.

Rock solid - 02/23/2011

At Mike's recommendation at Eagle Optics, we bought these to support the Vortex 85mm scope. Before they arrived, I used my lightweight camera tripod - almost unusable, especially with any wind. The Manfrotto legs are very stable, easily adjusted, and I like the little bells and whistles - a hook to hang weight, pads on two legs, etc. They are on the heavy side (but we bird mostly by car or bike). I'll need to find a good duffle bag with a shoulder strap, as they are too long to fit into a normal backpack, especially with head attached.

A Big, Solid Tripod - 10/27/2010

by Mark from PA

This is a big, solid, reliable, and extremely well-made tripod. The leg locks are the best I've seen: smooth and secure. It should be tall enough for anyone, even using a straight spotting scope. I'm 5'9" and with an angled scope I don't extend the center post at all, and don't even fully extend the legs. It is BIG. With a head on it, it is also LONG, but (for me at least) not too heavy to carry around. Of course, it is no trekking/backpacking tripod--far from it--but for the price it can't be beat as a solid platform for a scope.

Strong & Ergonomic tripod - 07/02/2009

by Erik Bruhnke from Wisconsin

The 055 XB tripod legs are simply fantastic. It is tough and sturdy, and the quick-locking leg locks work like a charm for standing the tripod up quickly. The soft leg grips are excellent for cold-weather and for resting on a shoulder while the tripod is being carried. Really recommend if you're looking for a well-crafted tripod that can hold a full-sized scope and still maintain stability.
