Tripod for spotting scope
John H. from Pharr,Tx
Tripod is well made, sturdy, and suitable for lightweight spotting scope. My dissatisfaction is with the head, which requires a delicate touch in tightening to allow pan and tilt function. It's not a fluid head,I know, but the expectation was that it would be suitable for the purpose I purchased it for...birdwatching. By the time you set the tension, the birds are gone.

Well made and works very well.
A Definite upgrade!
Jim R. from Saint Paul, MN
I purchased this tripod to replace the old model Vortex Pro GT, which I found serviceable for many years. It worked well for me using a very light-weight 60 mm spotting scope (Fuji 25x).
I upgraded my scope to an 80mm (Celestron Regal F-ED 20-60x) It is not only larger but much heavier than my previous scope. Consequently, it was coming loose from the old scope's quick-release mount of my tripod every time I used it. It went from an annoyance to beyond that - unacceptable.
So in considering a new scope, at first I bypassed the Vortex Pro GT. Reviewing my options on a budget, I noticed the Pro GT was an improved model. Improved is an understatement! It is a complete redesign!
The current Pro GT tripod is nicer in every way from it's predecessor: All aluminum - no cast metal parts, lighter, faster and more sleek quick release hinges, larger (but not too large) rubber feet, simpler and smoother pan head and a hook for counter weight. I like the all black look over the old models various colors too. Most importantly, on a weekend birding trip for waterfowl and shorebirds, resulting in many trips in and out of my car, this new Pro GT NEVER let go of my scope. Not one "snug up" required. I was very pleased.
So for those budget limited folks in need of a good tripod, this fits the bill quite nicely. I won't compare it to high-end carbon fiber models, but it works great for me and my heavy scope.
tripod for birding

I received this as a gift. It seems to be perfect for the uses I have in mind. One of the adjustment knobs was missing when I opened it up. I called customer service and the knob arrived in just a few days. Great response time.

The Vortex Pro GT Tripod is a great value. It has improved the functionality of my spotting scope. I wish I had purchased it sooner!
Decent Tripod for the Money
Adam W. from Richmond, VA
The tripod is good for the price. It holds my scope plenty steady, but it's not rock solid. I have found some difficulty in getting the tripod to lock on an single spot when zoomed in at 60x. It is prone to drift a little, but that's to be expected at that power. I would recommend this product for those who plan to use it purely for spotting, but I don't think its solid enough for high-quality digiscoping.

I got this to upgrade my old silver Vortex Pro GT, and both looks and operations are nice improvements. It is all black and looks good with my black scope. It is also lightweight and has a solid feel. The head and flip lever locks operate smoothly. It is just what I wanted for an upgrade and a very nice setup with my Vortex Nomad scope. Rating 5.
Good for the price
David M. from Kansas
The tripod is quite sturdy, but I was disappointed that there is some horizontal slack after the head has been locked down. Sometimes I have put a bird in view on my spotting scope for another person to look at, and when they look, the scope has shifted right or left. I can feel the horizontal slack when the handle is tightened, but there doesn't seem to be much vertical movement.
Very nice Tripod
Frank from Las Cruces NM
Very sturdy tripod, feels great in your hands. The minute you put your hands on this tripod you can feel that it is a good, solid tripod. It only weighs four and a half pounds so not to heavy and for only 150 it is well worth the price. Yet again, another awsome product by Vortex! You will not be disappointed with this tripod.
