a solid tripod head (especially for Kowa Prominar scope)
Boone from Wisconson
I moved to this tripod head from the Manfrotto 128RC. The 700RC2 is leaps and bounds better than the 128RC which I don't recommend to anyone. The construction of the 700RC2 is very solid and the control knobs are all positioned in one general location on the piece. The head is less bulky than the 128RC and a bit lighter. I tested it out this afternoon with a Kowa Prominar spotting scope and was completely satisfied. Its panning motion is very smooth and it takes about 1 second to fix the piece on a stationary subject with the conveniently placed adjustment knobs. I tested it out on flying waterfowl, raptors, and gulls and the results were impressive. Affordability and construction deserve 5 stars. The 128RC isn't worth 1 star.

I have a Swarovski 80mm scope. I had been using Manfrotto metal legs and 128RC head. I purchased the Manfrotto 190CX3 carbon fiber legs to save 2 lbs. I purchased this 700RC2 head to save 1 lb over the 128RC head. Both heads use the same quick release plate which works very well. Manfrotto has a very good way of connecting the legs to the head. The 128RC is an excellent head if weight is not an issue. The 700RC2 handles the Swarovski 80mm scope without any problems. If weight is not a concern, I would get the 128RC head as it is more substantial. As I carry my scope, saving 1 lb makes the 700RC2 an excellent choice that I am happy with.
Tripod head replacement
James Comfort from Punta Gorda, FL
I replaced a tripod head on a carbon fiber tripod which relyed on a threaded handle system to clamp the head in position. The difference with the Manfrotto head is amazing. I can just aim my camera or spotting scope at a target and have the position of the device stay fixed without any twisting or holding effort.
