The tried-and-true design of a backpack provides this simple solution to carrying your tripod in the field. Attach the wide, easy-to-use straps of the GlassPAK to the tripod legs, stash your field guide in the zippered pocket, and slip on the padded shoulder straps for the easiest way to move quickly along the trail. With additional straps to attach the pack around your waist and secure the tripod, you'll wonder how you ever got along without the convenience and comfort of this carrier. Vortex provides a limited lifetime warranty for the GlassPAK.
Low quality--disappointing.

Based on the positive reviews of this product on this site, I was expecting a good solution for biking and long hikes with a scope. I excitedly opened the package and attached the GlassPak to my tripod and set out on a short 1 mile bike ride to my favorite city park with the tripod on my back, with the scope on the head. When I arrived and took the tripod off to get my binoculars out of the pouch, I discovered that one of the straps was ripping out where it is sewn to the body of the pack!
I must conclude that this product is not designed to be used with the scope attached to the tripod, but there was no indication on the packaging that this was the case. Frankly, if the product is not designed to withstand the weight of the tripod AND scope, it is basically useless in a field situation. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this product, especially after being so satisfied with my Vortex Razor HD scope. I expected much more from Vortex.

This carrier has really helped my birding. My hands are now free so I can now look through my binoculars w/o putting the scope down. It is also much more comfortable to have the scope on my back than in my hand or on my shoulder. The pouch is also very useful for carrying a guidebook and for storing the lens caps.
a must have. period.

I've used a slightly earlier model of this for 5 or 6 years. It makes carrying the scope nothing, with the result that I take the scope everywhere. So for a small accessory investment, I get 3x as much use out of my expensive scope and tripod. I can understand how some people prefer the sling carriers, but to not get something is nuts.
One caution: the tripod carrier can act like a sail in windy conditions, so you need to be very careful how it is oriented when it is windy, to avoid a disaster ... the windiest places (hawk watches, fishing piers, ...) are typically also the places that a blow-over would be most damaging.

Delighted to have this carrier for our heavy Leica scope/tripod. The weight of the scope on my back/shoulders is well distributed versus carrying the scope on a shoulder. Now my hands are free to use my binoculars whenever I need to.It also gives my husband a break from being the designated pack animal for carrying the scope...
Would recommend this carrier to anyone...
Why did I wait so long???

Recently (after too many years of considering to buy a product like this) I finally bought the Tripod Carrier. During my first outing the benefits came clear very quickly:
1 - Carrying a heavy scope and tripod (nearly 10+ lbs combined) was easy
2 - You don't have to put the scope down first in order to hold your binoculars with 2 hands, or get the field guide out. Hands free all the time in the field.
3 - After a few hours walking/birding my back and shoulders were not hurting at all. This is really nice. Having the weight distributed over both shoulders makes a huge difference.
4 - Even with the legs partially extended I hardly noticed that I was carrying my scope
Overall I am very happy I bought this product and wondered why I waited so long to do this. The price is right too.
