Extra-low dispersion glass takes the performance of the Skyline ED up a notch by decreasing chromatic aberration and increasing resolution and color. With ED glass, you will enjoy better quality images when digiscoping. From the light-grabbing ability of the large 80mm objective lens to the zooming power of the variable eyepiece, the Skyline ED performs well without the high price. Bright views are made possible with fully multi-coated optics. The dual-focus knob allows you to achieve a quick focus, then take your time sharpening every detail. Tough construction, waterproofing, fogproofing, and the Vortex VIP warranty guarantees the Skyline ED will continue performing for generations.

Adequate for the job. - 09/01/2009

I had been wanting a scope for some years, and finally made this purchase when I saw this good looking, well made product in a high quality optics store. It was highly recommended by the owner of the store as a product as good as a Swarovski with a much lower price. It has a terrific warranty. However, while a good scope, I do not find it to be a great scope. It has three big drawbacks. First, it has a very limited depth of field in focus, so that if a swimming duck is viewed at distance at higher magnification, the head of the duck may be in focus while the rest of the body is not. Second, the focusing knob is very small, and requires an endless number of full turns to go from near to far focus. Third, the field is very, very dark anything much above the 45 magnification. Would I buy this scope again? Yes, marginally, as I do find it useful. However, don't buy it thinking you will get a scope that is quick to focus, or of the highest optical quality.

Very good scope - 06/21/2009

I bought this scope and am quite happy with it. Easy to use - easy to focus/find - combined it with the Vortex tripod.

Clarity in the center of lens is very good - though at the edges there is some dispersion - or slight diminishing of accurity. IMHO This is quite common for scopes in this price range.

Not sure how the ED lens compares to the non-ED lens version - but my rule of thumb for my SLR lens is "ED only" so I followed that here too.
