Amazing Performance For the Price
Peter N. from Albuquerque, NM
We got this scope for birding, primarily at Bosque del Apache NWR, which is near our home. We frequently spot perched raptors that are too distant to positively ID with our Swarovski binoculars.
We had the opportunity to use two Swarovski 20-60 80MM scopes owned by friends, angled and straight, to decide which style eyepiece was best suited for us. We decided on the straight.
By chance we'd also had a chance to use a straight Vortex Razor 20 -60 85mm scope. We just could not discern a noticeable difference between the Swarovski and the Vortex Razor, except in price, so we went with the Vortex Razor.
I actually prefer the Razor's focusing system. I think the fine adjustment is an added value. Other than that, in a blind test I could not tell the difference between the two brands for our purposes. Interestingly, even our friends who own the Swarovski scopes conceded that the image produced by the Razor was comparable to theirs.
Eagle's service was excellent, all I had been expecting.
Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 Straight - EXCELLENT

I have waited for nearly a month and a half before making this review since purchasing the Vortex Razor HD 85 straight spotter. First of all, the ease of purchase and service of Eagle Optics is superb. Secondly, this scope is excellent. I have put it to the test hunting mule deer and am able to effectively use this scope on objects the are over a mile away able to see very nice detail. Inside a 1000 yards, this scope is super incredible. Clear, bright, and easy on the eye. Lots of adjustment on the large eye piece to fit your personal "eye". Before I purchased from Eagle Optics, I compared this scope side by side with other high end spotters at cabelas and easily liked the Razor. For the price and the warranty you cannot go wrong. The 85 mm spotter is a little big, but it fits in my day pack and I hall it around with my vortex summit xlt tripod (also purchase from eagle optics) no problem.

I've really enjoyed my Vortex Razor HD Spotting Scope. I have the perfect place to use it and it meets all my expectations. Quality product. It goes well with the new binoculars that I bought from you ( Vortex Talons 8x 42). The Vortex products perform great out in the woods and fields. For the price you can't beat them.

I've waited a full year to do this review, so that I would have experience with the scope under all weather conditions. Bottom line, the Vortex Razor is an excellent quality scope and a super value. It's sharp edge to edge and colors are true. It compares very well with the higher end scopes. The warranty is unbeatable. I would buy it again, and would definitely recommend it to a friend. Minor complaints include the poor fitting and difficult to put on and remove lens cover. Hopefully Vortex has fixed this problem. The fitted scope cover has some poor design/material features and is also poorly constructed. The lens cover clip bases have sharp edges and damage the body cloth. I modified mine with extra clips and black duct tape. Stitching is poor.
Great scope !

First of all I would like to thank Eagle Optics for their excellent shipping and competitive pricing. I ordered this scope in the morning and it was sitting on my front door the next day and at no extra charge.
I first had the opportunity to check this scope out at Yellowstone a few weeks ago with a bunch of scopers viewing a bison carcass and wolf pack. This was in the Hayden valley a good 1/2+ mile away. Most in the group had the Swarovski STM-80 HD 25-50x80 scopes but one guy had the Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 scope. I viewed the scene from different focal lengths on both scopes and I couldn't discern any significant difference, although I actually thought the Vortex was marginally better (sharper & brighter) at the 40-60 zoom range. Now, I'm no spotting scope expert but I do own pro level Nikon DSLR/Lens gear and have a feeling for good optics. Anyway , I was very impressed with both of these high end spotting scopes and for the money felt the Vortex was the way to go. I bought one shortly after my return trip home and after some extensive on line researching and I can say that I'm very impressed with the Vortex scope. I used it at Pt Reyes Ca recently to spot some Bobcats and it was bright and sharp, this is a great scope both in quality and performance. The life time transferable warranty is just another plus. Buy one - you will be glad you did.

Great scope. Clear optics. The fine tune focus is great and with the 85mm objective, it gathers light with the best.
The only downfall is the eye relief. But with a little use, I'm getting used to being closer to the eye piece than I'm used to. Can't wait for hunting season. This will have some serious hours put on it.

I got a chance to look through a Nikon Scope. Then look through my new Vortex Razor HD 20-60 x 85. Could not tell any difference. Great scope for the money.
Rivals best out there
Sean from Rock Springs, WY
I found all the information about this scope to be accurate! I haven't looked through the best there is, but I wouldn't want to touch them for their price. Everything I have read said this rivals them and for about half the money. Vortex made a smart move coming out with the straight body. I went out and took pictures of deer from 500 yards and it looks like they are in my backyard. Using a cheaper digital camera and no adapter, the pictures came out great with a little effort getting them centered.
All hunters know that it's important to have great optics. After using this scope, i feel that I will never need another. The clarity is great throughout the magnification and the 85mm really brings in the light.
As with most spotters, at the highest magnification (60x), the eye relief seems on the short side, but unlike other spotters, I can actually look through the highest magnification without hurting myself. I didn't really like the view through case because it seems like more of a hassle to get it ready to look out the window. You have to unzip a few things and then fold over the objective side and they velcro underneath. I would have preferred one that had some type of snap cover for the objective end like my Nikon had.
