Ingenious perfectly describes the cutting-edge innovations of the Swarovski ATX modular objective. Purchase the modular ocular, add the 65mm objective lens, and you have a 55.9 ounce, slim and ergonomically designed, compact scope. Zoom and focusing features arranged next to each other speed your ability to change the zoom and focus on subjects. An incredible advantage of a modular objective is the option to expand your 25-60x65 scope's performance by purchasing either a 85mm or 95mm objective lens. The easy-to-change modular components make transporting the scope simple since you can store the objective and ocular parts separately.

Swarovski implements the finest optical technology to provide virtually even images with razor-sharp clarity and outlines. Improved coating technology and HD lenses set new standards for brilliance and image definition and guarantee optimum contrast in low light situations. Field Flattener lenses create a virtually flat image with razor-sharp details from edge to edge. Optical excellence, user-friendly features, and unsurpassed versatility make the Swarovki ATX modular scope a perfect choice for all your needs.

Superb Swarovski Scope - 12/05/2012

by Donner from Oakland, CA

Purchased from EO w/ATX eyepiece and 95mm modules, the 65mm objective has been an excellent complement to the larger setup, especially at its rather modest cost. The smaller scope shares the same features as the 95mm (i.e., extreme sharpness and contrast, stunning clarity, true color fidelity, consistent performance from 25 to 60x, excellent eye relief, and absence of kidney-beaning [image blackout]). The only real differences in the view are greater expected brightness from the 95mm objective in dim light and its higher 70x power. However, the 65mm has its own advantages, including a wider field of view at 25x, a less than 7-foot minimum focus w/o loss of image quality, and ability to focus quickly w/the silky-smooth collar and high contrast of the optics. Only about 1/4 turn is needed to bring objects into clear view from 30 feet to infinity w/2+ additional turns to reach 7 feet.

Before the introduction of the Swarovski X-series, I had been looking at high-performance compact and midsize scopes for air travel and birding by bicycling. While their small size and low weight were appealing, the compact scopes couldn't handle or didn't have the greater power necessary (e.g., scanning shorelines/large lakes) for quality views. Furthermore, in shadows and dim light, details and colors were lacking. Midsize scopes w/ their higher power and image quality are larger and not as portable and easy to pack for travel...until the Swarovski modular system became available.

While an ATX 65mm scope is one of the larger midsize spotters (and only about 2 oz. lighter than their 80mm HD STS w/25-50x eyepiece per my scale), the component design allows it to be broken down into two easily transportable pieces. They readily fit into two small cases that can be attached to my belt pack or a small day pack for birding by bicycle. The two relatively small modules can also be stowed in large pockets of my jacket, photo vest, or small carry-on when traveling by air (if the extra weight is acceptable and can be managed). On arrival, you have a superb scope w/little compromise in image quality and high power that will enhance the quality and experience of what may be a "once in a lifetime" trip. Very highly recommended.
