Housed in a lightweight magnesium alloy body, the Pentax ED offers optimum optical resolution by incorporating extra-low dispersion (ED) glass. With fully multi-coated lenses, light transmission is maximized for clarity and contrast of details. Packaged with a 20-60x zoom eyepiece, this scope accepts a variety of 1/4 inch astronomical eyepieces (not available from Eagle Optics). This scope comes with the Pentax Worry-Free warranty.

Great scope for the money - 03/12/2012

After sponging off of other birders for 15 years, I finally bought my own scope. Not being in the income bracket to drop two grand, I researched a lot of scopes for under $1k. This Pentax (on sale) rose to the top. I've been using it for a couple of months now, and I haven't been disappointed. I'm no optics expert, but in my opinion it has excellent clarity, with convenient zoom and focus knobs that stay where you put them, and a nifty little sun/rain shade that is remarkably helpful when I remember to extend it. I'm relatively tall, but I like to share my scope with other birders (you know, karma), so the angled design is useful. I won't claim this scope is in the same league as, say, a Swarovski, but it is a great scope all the same ... and when I factor in the price, I have to rate it as excellent.
