Good alternative to the big 3 - 06/16/2012

by Jeremy from Lehigh Valley, PA

I bought this scope for waterfowl and shorebirding. I like the compact 62mm size, and the ED glass offers nice, low CA views. The 20-45 eyepiece leaves some to be desired. Resolution doesn't increase much after ~30X and the zoom function is very stiff - sometimes causing the bayonet mount to rotate. Also, although the focus turns smoothly, the very low-profile grips make it hard to turn when cold and wearing gloves. I would recommend this scope, but might try the 30X wide-angle or 21-42X LER eyepieces instead of the 20-45.
