Prominar spotting scopes from Kowa kick up the performance level by using an XD objective lens with low dispersion properties to diminish chromatic aberration. The large objective lens offers terrific light-gathering power for long distances and low light settings. Kowa engineers offset the length and weight associated with a large objective lens by incorporating an inner focus system and a magnesium alloy body. With the eyepiece locking mechanism, the eyepiece securely attaches to the body and reduces the risk of loss. The waterproof and fogproof body adds protection from rain and temperature fluctuations. Kowa offers a limited lifetime warranty for this scope.

Kowa 774 straight ED glass spotting scope - 04/26/2011

by Phil L. from North Florida

My first scope was a Nikon Fieldscope II; my first experience with Kowa was a guide's 88 mm. After 5 years with the Nikon, I wanted a brighter scope that was usable above 30-35x. The Kowa is that, as well as light, 3 lb, 12 oz without case but with quick-release plate, only 12 oz heavier than the Nikon. Direct comparisons with equivalent Swarovsky, Leica, and Zeiss scopes suggest a minimum of equal optical quality. Good eye relief with glasses, although at 60x, eye placement is a bit touchy. Don't know how tough it will be; the Nikon has gone everywhere without damage. I really like the sight notch on the sunscreen, makes initial lineup on a shorebird easy. An excellent travel scope; get the case and sew on a rifle sling strap, and it will go everywhere you go (with a light tripod!). Have not yet tried digiscoping. So, with caveat of short usage limiting evaluation of durability, and no digiscope experience, this is an excellent quality, bright, light, compact, and optically superior scope.

i was able to purchase this kowa spotting scope before the 2009 hunting season. We hunt Wyoming and Colorado so there is perfect country to test the application of this amazing tool in the field. The light transmission and clarity were that of the swaro 80mm HD but the actual crispness of color in the kowa gave u a slight edge in the field when placed side by side. This was reconfirmed by the long time swaro user that the two scopes were compared. I would more than highly recommend it.
