Prominar spotting scopes from Kowa kick up the performance level by using an XD objective lens with low dispersion properties to diminish chromatic aberration. The large objective lens offers terrific light-gathering power for long distances and low light settings. Kowa engineers offset the length and weight associated with a large objective lens by incorporating an inner focus system and a magnesium alloy body. With the eyepiece locking mechanism, the eyepiece securely attaches to the body and reduces the risk of loss. The waterproof and fogproof body adds protection from rain and temperature fluctuations. Kowa offers a limited lifetime warranty for this scope.

Optical Features
Extra-low Dispersion (XD) Glass Enhances resolution, color, and contrast.
Fully-coated Lenses Increase light transmission with a single anti-reflective coating on all air-to-glass lens surfaces.
BaK-4 Prisms Optimize light transmission through the prisms.
Construction Features
Porro Prism Offer maximum image quality and durability in a traditional design.
Angled Body Design Is favored by users of different heights for viewing without adjusting the tripod height as frequently. The angled design works well when viewing at an upward angle.
Dual Focus Allows for precision with coarse and fine adjustments.
Magnesium Alloy Body Is sturdy and resistant to corrosion.
Adjustable Eyecup Twists up and down for comfortable viewing with or without eyeglasses.
Sunshade Reduces glare and shields the objective lens from raindrops.
Rotating Tripod Ring Allows greater flexibility when positioning the spotting scope.
Design Features
Waterproof Optics are sealed with O-rings to prevent moisture, dust, and debris from getting inside the spotting scope.
Fogproof Barrel is filled with nitrogen gas to inhibit internal fogging.

Great Scope - 04/13/2016

by John G. from El Paso, TX

I have been using this scope for about a month now and can heartily recommend it. For a 77mm objective lens, it is quite compact. I love the two-speed focus. The coarse focus helps change from near to far FAST and the fine focus is a welcome addition. Your fingers get used to sitting on top and accessing both knobs easily. There is no rubber armoring so I recommend getting the scope bag/cover. The good people at Eagle Optics recommended this to me as I was considering the Swarovski 65mm. The Kowa is brighter and more compact! I use the 25-60x wide-angle zoom (reviewed separately) and find this a fine package.

Kowa, an overlooked brand in the hunting industry - 02/29/2016

by Adam from Iowa

I have been tossing around getting a good spotting scope for for hunting for a while, but wanted to physically look through the several first-hand before making a purchase. I found a place where I could compare the several scopes I was considering: Kowa 773 against Swarovski and Vortex (no, objectives weren't the same, but similar). I viewed a dollar bill and a resolution chart. For me, the Kowa and Swaro had the clearest and brightest picture (I wish Vortex would have been in the hunt for the amazing warranty and price point). I personally like the coarse and fine adjustment knobs for getting a image crystal clear. For hunting, I thought I would like the barrel style adjustment of the Swaro so it wouldn't get snagged, but it was more difficult to fine-tune. Kowa is a brand I stumbled upon doing research, and I believe with more marketing, it could become more popular, especially in the hunting world.

Honey of a scope - 05/21/2014

by Patrick H. from Washington, D.C.

I have used my KOWA TSN773 for 4 years. The optics are fantastic, especially in low light conditions. The scope is rugged and has traveled the world without problems. I would highly recommend this scope for the serious birder or hunter.

Excellent Scope - 01/02/2013

by Adrian W. from Olympia, WA

Very happy with the 77 mm scope. Just spent wet day observing a Snowy Owl from >200m, and the view was crisp. With the 20-60x eyepiece and Manfrotto 128 RC/190XB tripod kit, the combination of scope and tripod is relatively light on the shoulder. Have used a TSN-821 for years through my professional work, and have enjoyed crisp views. I used the 821 for point counts and nest monitoring grassland nesting birds, and look forward to using the TSN 773 for the same work. Working in the Pacific Northwest requires a very waterproof unit, and I found this with the 821 and, now with the 773. Look forward to many years of good birding.

Couldn't be better - 11/21/2011

by J. from Washington, NC

I have owned my TSN-773 for about 3 years. It has traveled with me to many areas of the southeast and has been the hit of all my birding parties. Our professional guide recommended the KOWA without reservation and I heartily agree. The images and colors are precise and the ease of use is good. I would recommend this scope to any professional or serious amateur birder.

Kowa TSN773 - 07/15/2011

by Tom from Flagstaff, AZ

I had a chance to view a Ross's Gull thru a Kowa TSN773 in Gambell Alaska this year and fell in love with this scope. I really wanted one and bit the bullet and bought one for myself a month ago.

The Kowa TSN773 with 20x60X eyepeace is an excellent combination. I love the compact size, light weight and crystal clear view this scope affords at all magnifications. I used it to digiscope the half moon the other night, using my Canon point and shoot and the image was breathtaking.

I couldn't be happier with my purchase and once again Eagle Optics has some of the best customer service I've experienced.

Kowa TSN773 - 07/12/2011

by Tom from Flagstaff, AZ

I recently saw this scope on a trip to Gambell, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska and fell in love with it. After almost 30 years of birding, I decided to take the plunge and buy a really good scope.

I love my Kowa TSN-773 and 20x60 eyepiece. The view is crystal clear at all magnafications with extremely sharp focus. The scope is light, compact and easy to carry. I couldn't be happier.

I took a photo of the half moon the other night at 60X, sent it around to friends and they are amazed at the claridy.

You can spend a lot more on a scope, but I highly recommend the Kowa TSN7 series. Excellent scope.

Excellent birding scope - 08/27/2010

by JLF from Pasadena, CA

I'm very impressed with the quality- both the materials/construction and optics- of this scope. It's compact and lightweight, offers superb image quality and looks good to boot. I switched to angled scopes in 1992 and have never looked back. I had an early 77mm Kowa then which was a very decent scope, but this one is a major leap ahead in optical quality. My personal preference is for fixed power eyepieces and I use the 30X eyepiece with this 773. I love the all-the-time wider field and 30X lets me see all I need to 95% of the time. The dual focus mechanism works very well, although coarse focus is a bit stiff (but I suspect this will improve with use). This scope is a pleasure to use and makes birding that much more enjoyable. With a carbon fiber tripod, this makes for a very lightweight rig, great for carrying extended distances. Considering the optical quality and price, the Kowa scopes are a great value, although still not cheap- but totally worth it if you appreciate and want top quality.

Kowa 77mm Angled Prominar - 07/08/2010

The Kowa 77mm Prominar impressed me with its resolution and light gathering ability. In June 2010 vaction trip to Banff, Canada, I was able to see rock climbers on a sheer rock face repelling down at a distance of about three miles, the time was 9:15 pm. The detail was incredible. Later in the evening, I decided to look at the Moon, amazing resolution; the Moon was in it's full stage, the scope transmitted so much light that it was uncomfortable to continously look through it. Being a Surveyor and having used all kinds of expensive optics, I was more than slightly impressed.

Great Birding Scope - 04/06/2010

by Gary Baxley from Colorado

We purchased this scope for our birding club last summer. There were a few skeptics in the group because it was not made in Germany or Austria, but they were placated when they looked through the scope. We were impressed with the sharpness, even at 60 power, and the excellent color detail. It is just the right weight and highly portable as well as being easy to focus and setup. I would highly recommend this scope.

Great optics, good price - 07/01/2009

by Donald Morgan from Coventry, CT

I bought this scope after reading several reviews that said it was as good or better than the best available other than its big brother, the 883. The reason I went for the smaller scope is the half pound or so I saved, as I tend to cover alot of ground. I have never been sorry. This scope is amazingly bright, and sharp right up to 60X. My only quibble there is that the focus is very critical at the high end. In side by side comparisons I have been able to ID distant birds that the Swaro next to it would not resolve.
My only disappointment so far is that I have been unable to find a good combination for Digiscoping, and I know that I am not alone in that regard. No one I know has been able to find a camera/adapter combination for really sharp pictures with the 770-880 series. Lots of people are working on it and hopefully we can resolve that problem. I'm a birder first, and couldn't ask for a better scope for that purpose.
