Regal M2 80 ED 20-60 Angled zoom scope - 07/29/2015

by TW from United States

I like my purchase! I wish Celestron made an adapter for my Apple 6+, but that's a small shortcoming (but I do have some Great handheld pics of the moon!). Maybe some day..?.Celestron.? I have now had it 7 weeks. I have some nice Nikon 20x50 binocs, and I tried Nikon and Bushnell 'scopes with fellow birders at a local eagle hangout. I also tried a ($500 Vortex?) scope at WBU that was down $400. I didn't like the feel of the focusing, and the edges of the view were past fuzzy, they were blurred. I ordered this scope, with bag and discount tripod = Good Deal. I got the scope in 2 days. I went with the angled to be able to adapt the viewing angle to the height of the viewers. If one is taller, you can bend over and look in; no problem. It works very well; zoom out, spin scope up or down, refocus and zoom back in to the upper magnification. It now takes me 10-12 seconds if on a good tripod. It can adapt +/- 3 inches that quickly. (I am 5'8" = 5'5" to 6'+ without moving tripod = cool. I had the tripod at 3ft for some young viewers of the eagles, yet with an angled scope, anyone can lean over and look! It has awesome long distance viewing capability, especially compared to the few shooting scopes I've used. It is well padded/ armored. Use the lens hood - always! It takes away any bit of glare. Figure your preference for the eyepiece /cup and always adjust it so the image is full. This scope is good enough for intro / light moon viewing, and with a mount some nice pics can be had of most anything, with adjustment of the eyepiece and playing with the zoom and focus of the camera. I'd buy again too and will buy my next scope from Eagle Optics too. For 2-3-4 times the money there are better scopes - next time. Yet I'd still take this one along on motorcycle weekends.
5 stars = For the $ this can't be beat.

Top-of-the line scope for a mid-range price! - 07/16/2013

I've been using the Celestron Regal M2 80ED Spotting Scope for about a month now. It is much lighter and the glass is sharper than the Regal 80 F-ED. For $700 you really cannot beat this scope. The scope is also great for digiscoping. I am constantly using my iPhone 4s and Phone Skope adapter to take high quality video through this machine. Mount it on a trusty tripod and you have a top-notch piece of equipment.
