Nice scope, but I decided to return it... - 12/22/2014

by Barry S. from Tucson, AZ

I ordered this scope and tried it out by comparing it to my ancient 20X Swift spotting scope. While the new one appears to be well-made, I was unhappy with the field of view/eye relief (I wear glasses) at the higher powers. I found the field of view to be about 2' at 300' when set to 48X, which was unsatisfactory for me personally. I'm not sure how this compares to more expensive scopes, but for me it was a no-go. At the lower power, I found it to be quite similar to my old scope, so I ultimately decided to stick with the Swift 20X.

Excellent Cost Benefit Relationship for Neotropical Birding - 11/02/2014

by Douglas F. from Coxim, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

We purchased this scope through some clients to bring to Brazil for a birdwatching trip in the Pantanal, Southwest Amazon and Cerrado Biomes with us. We had to make a quick decision as to which model to purchase, and budget was an important factor. The Pentax model that we had originally favored was not available at the time we were ready to purchase on a few day's notice, and after reading the review from David in Ontario, we settled on this model. We hadn't had great experiences here with the Celestron MK1 models in the past but after reading the Canadian's review we decided to purchase. It is too early to answer questions about durability, but we wholeheartedly agree that the issues of the previous model have been resolved and that it is an excellent value for the price. One small criticism that I would mention is that the black anodized aluminum screw on viewfinder cap makes a heck of a lot of noise when you screw it on or off. You need to take it off before you encounter the birds. Our goal was to purchase a lightweight angled spotting scope in the 16-60x65 range. After some thought and study, we decided that the 16-48x65 range would be adequate given the distortion caused by heat humidity and dust in the neotropical environment where we will be using the scope. Occasionally it would be nice to have a little more zoom, but we are quite satisfied with the decision to purchase a 16-48x65.

Very pleased - 10/08/2014

by John R. from Va

We ordered this scope to train on our bird feeders to identify the many visitors we enjoy daily. it replaced a 30 year old B & L spotting scope. Wow what a difference !!! We are very pleased with the scope and the tripod bonus. We have had nothing but good experiences with our many orders from Eagle Optics.

Lot of improvements from the earlier version have made this a rather nice buy at the current price point. A new colour scheme of dark green and anodized black is far nicer than the earlier orange, silver and two tone grey of the MK1 version.
A better objective cover now stays in place when clipped on, a faster two speed focuser that's nice and smooth, the tripod mount still allows you rotate the scope body but now it clicks into a series of detents and the locking knob has been moved to a side position from the original one at 12-o-clock.
The weight is more acceptable now as the aluminum body is replaced with a mag alloy version, everything else remains the same, removable zoom eyepiece, a collet that accepts any 1.25" eyepiece, good optics, a sliding dew shield.
The case is a big improvement, bigger than the original with more padding and a clip on shoulder strap. Clearly Celestron have listened to customer criticism of the MK1 version.
It came triple boxed with an adaptor to attach a camera T mount.
At the modest price this scope retails for its hard to find any thing to complain about, if you are on a budget or just want to keep the cost down its worthy of your consideration, well done Celestron and Eagle.Optics.

Celestron Regal M2 16-48x65 ED - 12/26/2013

by Piers A. from Maryland

I am very pleased with this. The image is as expected from Celestron, at all magnifications. The dual focus controls work perfectly and have a great feel. The ring allowing you to rotate the body of the scope is a great feature, for viewers of different heights to use the scop, after you have focused on an object. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.

Enjoying my new scope! - 04/29/2013

by Daniel W. from Oxford, MS

I've never even looked through another spotting scope, so I can't make any direct comparisons. However, the image is bright and clear, especially from 16-25X. I have good binoculars (Viper HD 8X32), and the image quality seems comparable to those. I've been doing some birding and very basic astronomy with the scope, and it works great for both. I really like the rotation option, since I can let my 7 year old see things by rotating the scope so that the eyepiece points downward.
