Good, handy iPhone adapter! - 03/18/2014

by Victor L. from Waynesboro, VA

Since October 2013, I've been using my iPhone 5 adapter for digiscoping with my Swarovski ATX 95mm spotting scope. Overall I am very pleased with this adapter.

The strengths are its convenience, ease of use, price and hardiness. Before I head out birding I will slip my iPhone inside the adapter to have it at the ready. Another nice feature is that you can still fully use your iPhone even while it's in the bracket, and it will fit inside an outer jacket pocket easily. The iPhone slides easily into the adapter while being held tightly and securely, and it slides out easily too.

A couple of weaknesses exist. First, you can't use a protective iPhone case with this adapter. Thus, to slide your iPhone into the adapter you must take off the phone's case, if you are using one. This is only a minor weakness if your iPhone case comes off and goes back on easily. Second, although the adapter fits over the eyepiece via friction-fit, it can still slowly slide down via gravity, especially over time. It's still not much of a problem though, and a bit of electrician's tape inside the adapter solves the slip problem. For the price, I find this adapter worth the money.
