perfect - 09/30/2014

by Mike B from Utah

My preferred binoculars are a pair of 12X50 Eagle Optics binoculars. I use the Zeiss binoculars for hiking and carry them at least four times a week and I have carried them for years. I really like the offset hinge, it is much more user friendly than the traditional double hinge found on most smaller binoculars. For their intended purpose they are superb. I like them well enough that I bought my wife the 10X25 version and she loves hers.

Fantastic! - 06/10/2012

by Ted from Rush, NY

I have had a pair of these for several years and have not been sorry. The optics are outstanding! I really like the asymmetric folding design. Mechanically, they have been flawless. Although I wear glasses, I always flip my glasses up on my forehead and use the eyecups. This design works really well for me. I had actually ordered the similar Swarovski model but found the eyecups uncomfortable. Of course, Eagle Optics was great about letting me return those.

I use these whenever weight or size is important, such as when I'm mountain climbing or going to the theater.

Incidentally, my other binoculars (which I use most of the time) are Canon 15 x 45 Image Stabilized. I have had them for over 10 years and still prefer them to anything else. They weigh a ton but they're worth it. So you can see, usually weight is not important to me.

Follow-up on Previous Review - Binoculars Replaced by Zeiss - 03/08/2011

by Jeff from Hilton Head, SC

This is a follow-up on my review from February 23, 2011. Shortly after posting my earlier review, my wife received a call from Zeiss customer service. It seems the customer service rep was aware of my posting and aware of the specifics of the status of the repair process to the binoculars. The Zeiss representative stated that the binoculars were indeed "waterproof" and apologized that in a previous call a customer service representative had indicated otherwise. In addition, in about three days, my wife received new binoculars from Zeiss. Not entirely certain why, but Zeiss obviously decided to step-up-to-the-plate in its customer service and stand behind the waterproof design of its product. Had Zeiss dealt with the matter in this fashion from the outset, they would have earned an "excellent" product rating.

Zeiss Victory 8x20 - 02/23/2011

by Jeff U. from Boston

I purchased these as a gift for my wife in December 2007. She wanted light-weight binoculars that would be waterproof to take kayaking. For compact binoculars the optics are excellent, and the small size and light weight of these binoculars make them extremely portable.

In late January 2011 she turned her kayak over while in Florida. The Binoculars were immersed, but not to any depth as they were around her neck. The left side optics took on water and are damaged. On a call to Zeiss customer service, my wife was informed that the binoculars are "water-resistant", not "waterproof". In this regard, I would note that the Eagle Optics website and Zeiss website both state that the binoculars are waterproof. The Zeiss site indicates the binoculars are waterproof to 400 mbar. As best I can discern this is about 4/10th of an atmosphere. So, say 12 or 13 ft underwater. I suspect the damaged binoculars were subjected to at most 18-20 inches of water.

Zeiss appears willing to repair the binoculars at no cost. The binoculars were sent to a repair center in Virginia on Feb 4, 2011. Today (Feb 16th) my wife was informed that the binoculars had to be returned to Germany for repair and that it would be 8 - 10 weeks before they would be returned. The length of time involved in repairing this product is extremely disappointing. It is unlikely I would purchase another Zeiss product.

Excellent compact binocular - 11/22/2010

by Tom from Getzville, NY

I wanted some time to use these glasses in the field and at sporting events and have done so for about 3 months. These are excellent for all manner of indoor and outdoor sports whether it's golf, hockey games or football. They are very light and small and tuck into a light jacket pocket with ease, especially without the case. The case is a little clunky and while it will attach to a belt, it's sort of like a mini-fannypak but it works OK.

Cold weather in ice rinks does not affect the optics and they are water tight. I bought the "refurbished" model but it was brand new without a mark on it and still in the original packaging and plastic bag. If they were used, it must have been for about ten minutes in a show room somewhere because they were perfect. A great way to save a few bucks and get the binoculars you want. The 8 x 20 optics are as much power as I would want for a hand held without a monopod or tripod or without image stabilization. In summary, high quality, lightweight glasses that were a great value.

Fantastic Optics - 10/22/2010

by Jeremy from Geneva, FL

I purchased these binoculars for hunting and general sight seeing. The optics are amazing for such a small set. I can see clearly until almost dark. I have also used these for sight seeing in the Florida swamps at night. The view with just the boat lights and moon light is good. Due to the size, I actually want to carry them. Obviously, comparable brand mid and full size units will have the edge in low light but they will usually be sitting at home.
