Just gave the Vortex Vulture 10X56 a good trial on a three-day birding trip in Northern Missouri. Conditions: bright sun to rain, moderate to cold (below 32) temps. Vulture performed very well at all locations. As mentioned by other reviewers, they are heavy, so get a chest support. Best experience was viewing birds before sunrise and after sunset. In these low-light conditions, the image was brighter than I expected, sharp and clear. We saw 90 species with only one warbler, one flycatcher, and three shorebirds. Not bad for early Spring!

I bought these for general purpose viewing and am very satisfied. Although heavier than those with a smaller objective I really like the extra light capture for the 10x binocular, the small additional weight is a minor factor in my opinion.

I bought my 10x50 Vulture about 2 years ago and really like it except for its weight of about 2 pounds but I use a harness rather than a neck strap. I recommend them.

We purchased these binoculars for use on our boat that sails the Maine coast. We were looking for something with sufficient power to watch wildlife, from shore birds to seals, at a distance and do double duty as marine navigation binoculars. The 10x really helps with the wildlife and the 56 mm objective lens helps with night and foggy navigation. 10 power is the upper limit of usefulness on a boat, but we are pleased with the trade off and while heavy they are far lighter than traditional marine binoculars plus they center focus and thus are also useful ashore.

The optics are excellent. We have a pair of 10x43 high end Pentax field glasses as a base for comparison. The Pentax is very good, but the Vortex is better. It is possible to look at back lighted birds on the water in front of a setting sun without a hint of flare.

These glasses are slightly heavier than other similar styles but not enough to make a difference. Great product for the price as are any Vortex brand glasses.
