Wow! - 02/14/2013

I think with this newest version in the Razor line that Vortex has really set the bar high for themselves. The specs speak for themselves and they are lightweight, and just feel so well made in your hand. I'm a glasses wearer and close focus and long distance viewing was great, all the way out to the edge of field. I believe that it's true that with optics you get what you pay for, but perhaps in this instance, instead of comparing these to the $2k models, the comparison should go the other way. If you're a birder looking to upgrade, take a long look at these. And the Vortex warrantee cannot be beat. Also a mention for the great Eagle Optics service.
One teeny tiny thing - the focus wheel is so buttery smooth it will take you a bit to get the feel of it as compared to other bins that have a tad tighter wheel. I would like to see it with just a bit more tension to it. But, a very small point that wouldn't stop my purchase.

Vortex Razor focusing wheel - 08/09/2012

by Jeff from Santa Cruz, CA

I found the Vortex Razor 8x42 binoculars to be among the very best I've ever experienced in all respects but one. The pros are numerous: astonishingly bright and sharp image; well balanced and proportioned; The eye relief adjustments are perfect for use with or without glasses; The weight is surprisingly light allowing one to easily hold for prolonged periods while studying a subject. The cons include only one problem: The focusing wheel is creamy smooth but has hardly any resistance resulting in my tendency, when in a hurry, to either over or under focus an image. I've owned 4 different Vortexes and all of these had a more manageable, "Goldilocks" focusing wheel resistance which I prefer.
