Razor HD 10x50 - 11/12/2015

by Jim from Minneapolis, MN

I had an opportunity to compare the Razor HD with the Vortex Viper HD 10x50 binocular. I like to use tripod mounted binoculars for viewing the night sky as well as the usual daylight subjects. In this case I was able to test these on the moon, stars, open clusters and the summer Milky Way regions around Sagittarius. The Viper HD showed less color fringes on the edge of the moon and better edge of field resolution on star fields. This surprised me, as I felt the Razor HD was brighter and better overall on daylight subjects. The field of view is noticeably wider with the Razor HD, and I had no trouble hand holding them at 10x for daylight viewing. The Razor HD also was much easier to mount on a tripod as the optical barrels are not as close together as on the Viper HD.
In sum, I preferred the Viper HD for my purposes, but the Razor HD may be better suited for all around daylight use--nature, birding and the like. Then you need to factor in the price, since the Razor HD is about twice as much as the Viper HD model. My rating takes in that price difference and all around use for my own purposes. Only you can decide for yourself about such things, and I offer these thoughts for consideration. Vortex makes some real fine binoculars.

WOW, FACTOR - 05/04/2014

by Mr John R. from Newark England

I looked long and hard to find the right pair of glasses for me, but as soon as I saw and used these I knew I'd found what I was looking for, the best glasses I've ever held, easily compare to glasses more than twice the price.I would certainly highly recommend these, they look a million dollars and feel a million dollars Don't bother looking elsewhere.

Fine binoculars - 06/26/2013

by John S. from Gainesville, Florida

My aging eyes need all the help they can get. Bought these based on studying the specs and am very happy with the quality of this bino in every respect. Very bright image. Resolution is really crisp with minimum color fringing. Important to me is the focus wheel is perfectly smooth, without slop, in 1.5 revolutions end to end. Light and balanced in the hand makes this 10x no problem holding steady. Enough eye relief that I don't have to wear my eyeglasses. Field of view is 6 degrees, a little narrower than what I'm used to, but by no means a problem in tracking birds in flight let alone big game. Really nice field glasses that I enjoy using. I feel like I got good value.
