Darn good glasses
Jerry D. from costa rica
I use my Vortex Diamondbacks for general viewing in the mountains of Costa Rica, where I live. They are perfect for birding, and critter watching in general. They really bring out things partially obscured by surrounding jungle. Great bang for your buck.
So Much for So Little

I bought these as a Christmas gift for a good friend, who's an excellent birder and naturalist, but also a klutz of the first order. The Vortex warranty was made for him, as he's done in several pairs of other binoculars!
Now I can report firsthand, that these binoculars have been a major hit. He tried using them immediately, to read the writing on a box about 6' away ("I can see the small print better than when I'm using my glasses!") and on far away trees. Nothing would do, however: we had to go birding.
In addition to examining some local winter birds, we watched a flock of 100+ Sandhill Cranes, and discovered three Trumpeter Swans. He couldn't believe how clear the view was with these bins, for birds in the field, or in the distance.
The full size fits well in his large hands, too and that soft case will help give this pair a longer life.
Excellent value: thank you.

I use binoculars for birding and have tried a variety of models in the inexpensive-to-intermediate price range ($100-300). I strongly prefer the Vortex Diamondback over the others. First, the optics are sharp and remarkably bright in low light. Second, the build is solid. My first pair has held up well over time. Third, they have excellent close-focus and, therefore, perform admirably to provide detail on butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, and other fauna viewed at close range. My son (who is a much more experienced birder than I) greatly prefers the Diamondbacks to his more expensive Minox and Leupold binoculars. My wife, who was a big fan of her Swifts, also now prefers the Diamondbacks. So I bought a pair for each of us. My only complaint is that the focus knob is too stiff right out of the box. But after a few weeks, the focusing becomes fast and smooth.

Just upgraded from an old dinosaur pair of bushnell. The clarity and comfort of this lightweight pair of 8x42 Vortex Diamondback binoculars is superbly an upgrade and a pleasure to own. The cost was about $100 less than the best selling of the 8x42 binoculars: Nikon Monarch, and the Diamondback hard case offers excellent protection compared to the poor design of the Nikon case. Also, the field of view of the Vortex Dianondback has tested by a group of us to be superior to the Monarch's. Highly recommended and the excellent quality is accompanied by Eagle Optics uncomparable expert, excellent and availabe service!
Vortex Diamondback 8x42 Binoculars
Tommy F. from 1422 Calumet Farms Dr., Collierville, Tn. 38017
I recently purchased this product after a brief survey on the Internet. I was primarily interested in binoculars for birding. These are really good binoculars! They have a solid and expensive feel without being overly heavy. The optics are outstanding with a bright, sharp image and easy to manipulate focus knob. I especially like the ability to quickly pick up a flying bird and follow it to a landing site. If you are looking for binoculars for birding you should consider these. I don't think you can find any of this quality at a better price. I am thinking about getting a second pair to keep at my lake house.
Very nice binos

I recently purchased these binos for sage sparrow survey work. My crew has used them for approximately one month now and they have been great. They have very good clarity, close focus, and they are fairly light weight. I would not hesitate to recommend to a friend.

Nice for the price!

I'm very impressed with the Vortex Diamondback 8x42. I have had them a few weeks and use them for birding. The image is really crisp and the field of view is great for tracking a bird in flight - even a swallow. What I did not expect is how well they work in low light. I was looking at cliff swallow nests under the eaves of a silo - with my old binoculars I could not really see the babies in the nest in much detail because of the low light; I could only see movement. But this time I could see everything. What a thrill! And it's nice that the lenses don't fog. On a recent chilly morning, my glasses kept fogging up, but the binoculars didn't. The eyecups can be adjusted according to whether one is wearing glasses or not, so I just took off the foggy glasses and enjoyed the clear view through the binocs.
Meets The Need Well

We bought these binos to live in our kitchen and use every day for the backyard birds, and they serve this need very well. They're sharp and easy to use, although the focusing wheel is a little stiff, which slows refocusing between close and far away. The close focus is good for details on close birds or insects and I'd be happy to use them on field trips, although they're somewhat heavier than most 8x40 or 8x42 models.

I have now purchased 3 Vortex Diamondback 8X42 binoculars. The first was for myself, based on a recommendation from a bird-watching friend. The second was for my older sister when she began getting interested in ospreys 2 years ago. The most recent was for my younger sister when we all went to Florida together. We are all now huge fans--my younger sister was transported with excitement at seeing black skimmers, roseate spoonbills, wood storks and scores of other striking species. I never go out without mine, and they have held up through wet, cold and challenging conditions. A wonderful product.
easy, simple, please

my new binoculars are great. reviewing, evaluating and making a decision was easy on the eagle optics website; plus their life-long warranty is an added benefit. so far, I am happy with my purchase, enjoying birding and these binoculars are living up to the claims. i am a happy camper here with my new binoculars.

Just starting birding and these Binos were purchased to replace a pair of cheap Binos. What a difference, so much clearer and brighter. Great starting Binos for anyone.
Liked it so much bought a second pair for my wife
Donald H. from Kirkland WA
We received a recommendation from a friend to try a Vortex Diamondback 8x42 binocular as a great buy for the money. We bought one and have been very impressed from day one. We were so impressed that we purchased a second pair – also at Eagle Optics. We recently used them to watch Bald Eagles near Squamish BC in nasty weather. There were lots of magnificent eagles and lots of nasty cold rain! The binoculars performed perfectly. My wife and I both wear prescription eye glasses and the adjustable eye cups are a wonderful addition.
Sharon from Denver, CO
I'm very pleased with the binoculars. I use them for birdwatching and wildlife in our backyard and on the golf course. They work very well. I would recommend them for the casual bird watcher.
So nice, I bought it twice!
Gabi C from United States
Love these binoculars. The right blend of quality, weight, and price. Especially love the close focus range. Better than any other binoc in the price range. We used this model in my ornithology class in college. I bought one for myself years ago. I have had the opportunity take Vortex up on their amazing warranty policy. Turn around time is fast. I think I had the replacement/repaired binocs within a week of sending them in. This recent purchase was for my mother-in-law who is just getting into bird watching. Highly recommended.
Best view ever

I purchased vortex diamondback 8x42,I am so pleased with them.I am thinking of buying a second pair for my grandchildren.
Love these binoculars!

After considerable research, I decided on the Vortex Diamondback 8x42s and I have found them to be the exactly what I need for birdwatching and all-around viewing. Images are clear, focusing is quick, field of view is great. And, they fit my budget. Our backyard is a natural bird habitat and I reach for my binoculars several times a day -- from bluebirds in the birdbath 10 feet away to the red-tailed or sharp-shinned hawks soaring overhead, these binoculars are the ticket for me.
I think they are excellent value for the money. Incredible warranty. I have just ordered a second pair for my husband so we will not be fighting over these! I considered the 10x50s for the second pair but both of us like the 8x42s so much that we decided to go with what we know. Maybe another time . . .
Edward N. from Michigan
The Vortex Diamond 8 x 42 binoculars delivered everything I needed for bird watching. So far I used the bionoculars in my backyard which includes berry producing shrubs, a wildlife garden backed up by a 5 acre pond. This yards provides habitat for several species including the belted kingfisher, red wing blackbirds, sparrows, and the coopers hawk that ocasionaly perches on the bluebird house. The binoculars provided clear images with quick focusing, frequently at a close range.

Having looked for quite a while at many different kinds of binoculars for birdwatching, I was shown a pair of Vortex Diamondback 8 X 42 by a fellow birder in the woods this Spring.
These were so good that I went home & ordered a pair right away. The bright light gathering with these is extremely good. They are light enough to carry for long periods of time. The center focusing is smooth and easy to operate, & best of all the focus is clear & sharp from very distant
objects, to objects a few feet away. I have a pair of 10 X 50's that are great for distance viewing, but cannot focus closer than quite a few yards away.
These Diamondbacks are the perfect combination for birdwatching & all viewing in general.
These are fully as good in every respect as other binoculars costing much more. I am extremely pleased with every thing about them & highly recommend them.
Tom H. from United States
Bought these for my wife for mothers day to watch her birds with. Quality is outstanding, very bright and sharp. They were on special so the price was great too. Would highly recommend!

Wow - I've borrowed and tested many types of binoculars and these are the best. Why? The field of view. That is what makes all the difference. Of course clarity, features (glasses on versus no glasses on), life-time guarantee, etc. are wonderful all for a great price. No hesitation, buy these!
J Sjoberg from Reno, NV
Wanted an upgrade from some old Tasco 10x50's and after trying my brothers Vortex 8x42's decided to get a pair. Very impressive for the price. I can't really see spending over $1000+ more for something my 70+ eyes probably couldn't see anyway...mayby a bit more for the HD version but not at this time. Close focus is a great feature. I'm tall and I don't have to get on my knees to see some of the small wildflowers that we have here in the desert. Delivery was very fast(2-3 days). The semi hard case is a bit bulky but could also hold a few other small items when packing for a trip. I'll probably try a harness carrier as they are a bit heavy with the neck strap...same goes with most of the others I checked.
I can see clearly now...

Thankfully, my backyard has become a bit of a sanctuary for birds of many varieties. I have put out feeders, houses, water sources, etc. over the past year or so and didn't realize how much fun watching these fury little jewels would become. Wanting to better see and understand them, I decided to seek out a good set of binoculars and spent many, many hours researching various websites, etc. After much reading of product reviews, birding advice sites, and blogs written by avid birders, I determined that 8x42 would be a good place to start. Since most of my use will be in my backyard, I also wanted a binocular with a very close focus as well as one that could reach further out for hiking and nature walks. I went to several local suppliers who have binoculars on open display to try out in the store and really liked the feel of the Vortex sets I handled. I stopped in at our local Wild Birds Unlimited and asked for the owner's advice on birding binoculars. "Here's what I use," he said, and produced a pair of Vortex 8x42 Diamondbacks from the back room. He then let me go out back and watch one of his bird houses with them. Experiencing the detail and clarity of these binoculars was simply amazing! A Mockingbird family was nesting in a house that was some 40 yards away and it seemed as if I could reach out and touch them. I asked what the owner thought of Eagle products in general and he advised it is the best selling line he carries and sited the VIP guarantee. He just happened to have a pair of the 8x42 Diamondbacks in stock and I bought them on the spot. I have to say that I am totally enamored with these binoculars. They are sturdy, feel great in hand, and work perfectly both with and without my glasses. The ability to focus on at less than 5 feet away is incredible and really allows you to see every tiny detail. The instructions are well written and help to get you started off with perfectly focused binoculars straight from the box. The right eye diopter was a bit difficult to turn at first, but I appreciate its tightness because it should prevent this feature from having to be reset frequently. The focus turns very smoothly and is positioned intuitively so that transitioning between distances is simple and effective without fumbling. All-in-all I can't imagine being more pleased with any of the other sets I researched and couldn't recommend them more highly!

Jack W. from Washington State
These are the second set I have purchased. Clarity of view is excellent, focus is fast, covers for lenses and carrying case are excellent.
Broke my first set. Returned for repair more than a year later. Was sent a new pair with the explaination that a repair satisfactory to mfg. could not be made.
Customer service is really great. Called, asked about warranty, told they warrant what they make. Asked for how long.
The answer was "eternity".
Will now being looking to buy my next rifle scope here rather than Leupold.
Vortex Diamond 8x42
Rick F. from Racine, WI
A very nice binocular for the price. Has a very close near focus and a very wide field of view. Has a very nice feel and is rubber-coated. Images are very crisp. The eye cups screw out for eyeglass wearers. The only drawback was that the right eyepiece diopter did not easily move to adjust for the eye. In fact, I had to use a pliers to loosen it up.
Great glass for the money, quality control could be better
Fred from New Jersey
I am very pleased with the image from this pair of binoculars. And the service from Eagle is terrific. The only problem is quality control: the openings to attach a strap or harness are too narrow, limiting their utility. I have not seen any other binocular with this problem. Also, the objective lens cap does not fit, always falling off. But, Lindsay from Eagle sent me at no charge, rings, cable ties, and a better fitting objective lens cover.
In the end, I am happy with this purchase. A very good image in a relatively compact size for a great price.
If I were looking for an additional pair of binoculars now,I might look at another model, but I would definitely buy from Eagle.

I am a hobbyist birder and figured I needed some nice optics to motivated myself to go birding more often. I was on a budget and after spending some time researching this vortex binocular fit the bill. The image and sharp and the colors are pretty much what you see, I haven't noticed warmer colors as of yet. Thanks Eagle Optics for a great product and fast shipping. Keep up the good work.
