5 Stars for the price - 01/08/2016

by Michael H. from Houston TX

My reviews take price into account. For the money these have to rate 5 stars. I also own Swarovski swarovision 8.5x 42. These Vanguard 8.5 x 45 are for all practical purposes identical in size, weight, excellent ergonomics and configuration to the Swarovskis. It appears that this particular Vanguard model may no longer in production and the price has increased as a result (presumably?). They are not quite as good as the Swarovskis of course but in good conditions they appear to perform 80 to 90 per cent as well and at a fraction of the price. The most significant difference imo is the FOV on the Vanguards is significantly less but then the Swaros have a huge field of view so this is not really a significant criticism or fault. As other reviewers note there is some CA but I notice it only under tough conditions and this is not a significant fault considering the price and overall performance. The case is nice but the fit is snug, no room for any extras beyond a cleaning cloth. I love the two part quick connect strap which imo is an underrated aspect in the use and enjoyment of optics. The neck component can be switched between the case and the bins while the other can be used in the hand strap configuration. Lens covers are good quality. No doubt a 5 star all around general purpose binocular for the price.

Impressive warranty and service - 02/10/2014

by Dave from Minnesota

I have used my Vanguard Endeavor ED 8.5x45 bins in the field for two years working as a wildlife technician. They did get pretty beat up and scratched but the housing was never compromised. The focus wheel did become loose after a year and eagle optics fixed it for no charge. When the focus wheel became loose the following year, along with deteriorating eye-cups, I sent them in to have them serviced by the company and paid the $10 s&h fee. In a week, I had a brand new pair in the box delivered to my door with no questions asked. I did not expect a new pair considering how minor the damage was but I definitely appreciated it enough to write a review. I would also like to reiterate that I use my binoculars intensively while traversing dense undergrowth on a daily basis. The durability of these particular bins would undoubtedly be better under typical user conditions.

Fantastic Binoculars for the Price - 06/19/2013

by Lenny from San Francisco

I got the Endeavor ED 8.5x45 a couple of months ago, and have been enjoying them immensely. They are the first non-crummy binoculars I have owned, but I have tried "alpha" and mid grade binoculars. While these Vanguards are clearly not in the alpha league, they are really fantastic for the price and compare favorably with much higher priced binoculars. Ergonomically, they are just about perfect: very comfortable shape, excellent focus knob, locking diopter, thoughtful lens cap design, and nice grippy armor. Very solid build quality, without being too heavy. The image is really sharp, bright, and has a nice big sweet spot with no noticeable distortion. The only optical complaint I have is that there is some purple color fringing when looking at a brightly lit subject against a bright, light-colored background, but this is not a serious problem. I will buy other Vanguard products in the future.

Awesome! - 03/24/2013

I am so happy with my 8.5 x 45 Endeavors! The weight is great. Not heavy and not too light either. They feel solid. The focus wheel is very acurate and speedy. The view through them is spectacular. The light transfer and coloring in low light situations is great. I have used Swarovski binoculars before. Even though the Swarovski's are great, the price is not. The Endeavors are very close if not as good, but for a quarter of the price. I recommend these for anyone in the field of birding or any sort of nature watching. I think I'm with them for life now. For price and quality, nothing matches.

I have been out birding four times since I received the glasses and am very peased with the product quality and clear images.

Quality Optics, Affordable Price - 08/10/2012

by Doug from Wisconsin

These are very good optics. They're a high qaulatity build. The are a comopetive with higher priced binoculars. Better than Stein or Merlins except the removeable lens caps.

Good experience. - 06/16/2012

by Brad from Salt Lake City

Bought these binoculars to replace a pair of Pentax which were stolen. After purchasing we took a family trip to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons and spent five days using the binoculars extensively. I'm quite pleased with optic quality and they performed very well overall all. A couple of things were less than optimal. First, the lens caps were poor quality (all around) - could definitely be improved. The case is also less useful than my wife's eagle optics case which simple fits around the binoculars, even while being worn. The last thing I noticed is that the focus is rather shallow and it can be difficult to get a really sharp focus quickly.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase and for the price it seems like a pretty good deal.

Vanguard Endeavor ED 8.5x45 Binnocular - 06/13/2012

by Charles from Oregon

Very nice binocular with one exception. With the label of ED I expected good color performance. This binocular has color fringing around the subject when the background is light. Very disappointing. All other aspects of the binocular are up to expectations. (the objective lenses covers are not attached as shown in illustration)

Vanguard 8.5 x 45 Endeavor - 01/18/2012

by Roger from Oklahoma

I bought the Vanguard Endeavor Binocular after reading the good reviews. I wanted to look through it before I purchased it, and went to Cabelas's which have it available online, but not on display at store. So I decided to buy based on the reviews only and after reviewing Eagle Optics return policy. You can return within 30 days if not satisfied with a product for a full refund.

I own a high-end European binocular and have intentions of selling it after purchasing the Vanguard 8.5 x 45 Endeavor binocular. I use it for deer hunting so most of my use is in low light conditions and the Endeavor out performs the European binocular in this area, and are 1/4th of the cost. I also own a Cabela's Alaskan Guide 10 x 42 and the Endeavor is definitely my favorite between the two.

The Endeavor is light weight for a full size binocular and its light gathering capabilities with the 45mm objective lens is astounding. The clarity is great edge to edge, and the color tone is true as well. Best value binocular I think you can buy.
