How does Swarovski make the 42mm SLC into a top-notch, all-around binocular? Starting with the Abbe-König prism system and adjustments to the entire optical system, engineers maximized the function of fluoride HD glass objective lenses for excellent resolution and contrast, as well as minimizing color fringing. The magnesium housing of the Swarovski SLC now has full coverage with rubber armoring in 2 different textures for a great feel and stability in hands of all sizes.

Handy and top quality. - 09/06/2015

I got a pair of these recently for my wife who is a amateur bird watcher and she loves them, so do I. They are small enough and light enough to be used for extended times without fatigue and the brightness and clarity of view is excellent. Highly recommended and Eagle Optics is a top notch company with outstanding service and a very prompt and quick delivery.

Great value for very good optics! - 11/28/2014

by Marilyn S. from Miamisburg, OH

I recently had to replace a pair of Swarovski binoculars which had been stolen from a vehicle. These are not exactly the same as my old SLC 8x42 HD binocs , but I am very happy with them. The focus is longer, 10 ft. away as opposed to 6 ft. so using them for butterflies is not as good. But optics are very clear in whole viewing area, colors bright. The focus knob works more easily than my old pair. I would recommend them to anyone.

The Sweet Spot of a Best Buy - 10/08/2014

by HowieD from NYS

I had first purchased the Swarovision 8.5x42 EL - now returned. I had no rolling ball effect but found the fully flattened, edge to edge sharp image made anything (toward the edge) that was less than perfect that much more obvious. For example, although I am not overly sensitive to Chromatic Aberration but really began to notice it outside of the central FOV since, in comparison, everything else was so crisp it stood out to me.

Knowing the SLC 8x42 was a more traditional design and that it would have some pincushion distortion I didn't expect perfection. I found it's actually pretty linear and sharp - better than I thought it would be - until about 75-80% of the way out from center.

The SLC's 'sweet spot' (the central ~50% or so) is superb and delivers the contrast and resolution that Swaros are known. The image also appears brighter in all lighting conditions while the size, feel and fit of the SLC - in my hands - is better as well.

Being hundreds less than the 8.5x42 EL or the Zeis HT and delivering virtually the same level of performance, these are, IMHO, the best buy!

Highly recommended.

An excellent pair at a good price - 09/02/2014

by Rick from Ga.

After purchasing a Swarovski spotting scope a year ago to assist my aging eyes at the range, I started noticing that my eyes were getting tired when glassing the woods with my Pentax binoculars. They aren't the top binos Pentax makes but they are very good. I saw the 8X42 SLC's on sale and figured I'd try them and see if they are that much better. Yes they are. I was looking at pine tree branches and I was amazed at how each pine needle stood out brilliantly. I have other brands of binos too and none stand out like the Swarovski's. They are incredible. For the money, I don't know of a better value.

Shrinking candy bar - 12/22/2013

by Clifford B. from Santa Cruz, CA

I bought and own a pair of the SLC 8x42s. The ones that came out a couple of years ago. The new ones are different in that they no longer have a close focus of 6 ft. This is a major change in that viewing hummingbirds, butterflies and that skulker in the bush are now harder. The price has dropped but if you want the close focus you have to go for the ELs. I think they made this change because they were too close optically to the more expensive ELs and were cutting into their sales. The SLCs are far better feel in the hand which is a big reason why I sold my old ELs and got the SLCs when they came out. The focus wheel has been re-geared to be faster on all of them since that was the main complaint they received. Excellent just became very good due to the downgrading of the close focus.

SLC is for me - 11/28/2013

These are truly an "SLC", SLIM, LIGHT, Compact...They carry and feel like a 42mm ultravid but they do have better optics than the ultravid HD.
Neutral color, no warm bias
i would also rate sharpness and contrast very high...
Eyecups are comfortable and eye relief is great, no blackouts when panning

I wouldnt buy the EL unless you thought you needed "swarovision", but these SLC (HD'S) are swarovision themselves!
