The Pentax DCF ED binocular offers extremely clear and bright images in both intense and low light. I can see color and detail that I couldn't see with my previous binocular. The focus holds true from quite close to infinity and has increased my ability to see birds at my feeders or half a mile away on a river. The relatively short length and light weight of the 8x43 makes a perfect fit for my small hands (I am a 5'4" female). Initially I thought the focus was too tight, but I realized that by using my index and middle fingers it focuses easily. I suspect it was designed that way. When making an upgrade to a better binocular consider this one. I could not recommend it more highly given the price and quality.
My new favorites

I bought these for all around use and for Astronomy. These provide pinpoint star images and super detail of the night sky. I was really impressed with how much I could see with these 8x43 bino's. Durning the day I can see details that I just can't see in my other bino's. If you want a crystal clear image, these are the ones for you.

We bought 2 pair of the DF ED 8x43 after considerable searching and trials of other units. The performance of the these is everything we expected, a substantial improvement over our old units.
We feel that we got a very good performing set of optics for an excellent price. The only drawback of these compared to other systems we looked at is the field of view is not wide angle. However, these cost about 1/3 the price of the other items.
Looking through the lenses is very comfortable, and allows the viewer to just be in the scene instead of feeling as though you are looking at something. We are able to see more detail with these 8X units than with our old (1960's unit in decent condition, but with some of the coatings worn off) 10X units.
The eyepiece cover is awkward to use and very cumbersome. We will probably look for something different to replace it

I previously had a pair of Pentax dcf that I used for 12 years. BTW I bought those at Eagle Optics. The new ones DCF ED have a bright clear view. We bird and that is what we look for in a pair. Eagle Optics is great and service is wonderful.
Pentax DCF ED 8x43 Binocular

Upgraded to these from my 8.5 x 44 swift audubon roofs. I love the view through these binoculars! The colors and brightness are amazing. Even though they are only 8X, I am able to discern color markings on waterfowl at great distance. Also, little drab birds in a shady bush really stand out. Only two minor complaints. One,the eye piece covers are no good, so I replaced with one made by vortex. Two, the hinge was loose enough that the interocular distance would not hold. Solved by the vortex binoc lock (great product). I don't think you'll get a better view for the money.
cant be beat for the money

I was able to compare these Pentax DCF ED 8X43 with the El Swarovski and can honestly say that all though the Swarovski was better it was not enough better to make me spend twice the money infact my wife liked these even better than the Swarovski and she had no clue what the price difference was.
Bright image, beautiful color

Amazing clarity, brightness and vibrant colors characterize these well constructed and relatively light weight binoculars. Add the no-worry coverage and you have a package that clearly reaches the "point of diminishing returns" where the slightest improvement in image quality comes at twice the price.

These binoculars are sharp, have great contrast, better low light performance then my Swift porro 8.5x44ED’s and colors are true. They are a joy to look through and have become a favorite. Don’t regret the purchase at all and would buy again.
