I never looked through really good binoculars before, and these are amazing! I can't compare them to more expensive ones, but I can't imagine that there could be a big difference. I am really happy with them.

I have been using the Swarovski ELs for nine years and loved them except for the extremely slow focus. As I get older and my vision becomes less sharp, the slow focus has become a serious problem, and I have started to miss birds as I try to go from near to far or vice versa. I became frustrated enough that I decided to try something else. While my original intention was to purchase a pair of Bruntons, based on reviews in birding magazines and on comments on the Internet, I opted for the Pentax, which appeared to be superior to Brunton optically, and the price was right. The Pentax are optically excellent, they feel good in the hand, they are light, and the close focus is more than adequate. However, they have two problems. The big one is that the focus knob turns only a little faster than the one on the Swarovskis. However, it requires only one and a half turns to go from one extreme to the other, as opposed to two and a half for the Swarovskis, so I have gained something. The other problem, which is more of an annoyance than a genuine problem, is that the covers for the objective lenses dangle from rubber stalks that are attached to the center of the binoculars, so you have to be careful to push the stalks back between the barrels to keep the covers from getting in the way of your vision.
Worth the wait.

I have been biridng for over twenty years and have looked at many high grade binoculars some costing twice as much as the Pentax DCF ED's. Once I made an informed decision I purchased a pair of Pentax DCF ED's and they everything I had hoped for and more. For ease of operation, sharpness, brightness, color resolution and quality the Pentax DCF ED's are the best binoculars for the price that can be purchased. An excellent binocular that I would recommend to any birder without reservation.

I was due a step up and was not willing, nor could I afford the $2000+ binoculars. After a lot of research and as much hands on (local) experience I could find, I decided to order these to test them out. WOW! I cannot imagine a binocular that is brighter or clearer. The close focus is incredible, the depth of view is wonderful. The size of the field of view is average for 10x bins, however they seem clear edge to edge. The focus knob only turns about 1.5 times around from close focus to infinity which makes it much easier to change focus from one target to another. They are lightweight, but sturdy feeling. I would highly recommend these binoculars!
