I've been birding for several years and disappointed with my binoculars. When I purchased the Nikon Monarchs, I could see a huge difference in the clarity. I can see why they are the No. 1 choice of binocular for birders!
Great little binocular for the money

I already have an older pair of monarch 8x42 binoculars, and my wife wanted a decent pair, so we ordered these. She was interested in a slightly smaller pair and I figured the Monarch line would offer a decent image despite the smaller objective lens of an 8x36, and it does. I don't really notice too much difference between these and my 8x42's. The focus knob action is very smooth, the eye cups click into 4 pre-set positions. The field of view is nearly identical to the 8x42s, and the image is very bright and clear for the size and price. I highly recommend the Monarch series for anybody that wants a nice pair of binoculars without spending a ton of money.

I bought these based on all the reviews (read - people who know more than I do) - I'm delighted. I had a minor problems with something on the lens (not EO fault) and called EO customer service. Great experience, clear, friendly and in English!
Highly recommend these to anyone, they are as good as the revies say and yes, the lens covers are worthless but who cares it's the optics that matter.
My only regret is not getting a lower power, I have a hard time holding the 8 power still.

Just what I was hoping for: a perfect compromise between compact and full-size binoculars for extended use on birding excursions. They are lightweight and easy to handle and focus, but they perform optically very much like their bigger cousins. If I ever feel the need to move up to a really expensive alternative, I'll keep these in my car for back-up. My only negative is to echo the many comments about the nuisance of the lens cap design. My solution has been to take my chances-- I junked the lens caps and just keep the naked binoculars in the case when not in use. I still give these 5 stars, because they are such a great value.

I got these binoculars for a field ornithology course. They fit my hands nicely, work well with my glasses, & have great visuals. However, I'm trading them in for the 8x42s -- For only 2 extra ounces, the extra incoming light will be worth it. (Those silly birds like early mornings, when the light isn't perfect.)
Fantastic for the price

These were my first pair of "upgraded" binoculars and they hold their own against much more expensive brands. I've had them for well over 10 years and I still prefer them over others I've tried, because of the value for the money. They're easy to clean, easy to handle for folks with smaller hands, and easy to focus. One particular perk are the eye pieces - they're easy to adjust and not made of cheap rubber that breaks off (like in cheaper binoculars).

A good brand earns it's reputation due to lasting customer satisfaction. These 8x42 Monarchs from Nikon are a model of satisfaction. Compact, waterproof and bright clarity. The simple twist eyecups are very helpful and a step up from my previous action line nikons.
love them....

Having used older binoculars for a long time, updating to these Nikons has been wonderful. Lightweight, easy to use, excellent lens, and compact size. Can't go wrong with this choice. Alot of value for your buck at Eagle on these.

I love these binoculars. They are very clear, they are easy to adjust with my contacts or eyeglasses on or off, they are light and well-protected. Super deal! I might risk selling them for more than twice the price, used, and hope I can buy some new ones.

I have been very happy with the Monarch. I bought it as a back up to have in the car map compartment between the seats. Optics are fine and I like the feel. I did not like a compact: it did not fit my grip and felt strange and I returned it for the Monarch. Glad I did!
Now I need to get another for my other car...

I bought this as a "2nd", more portable bino for my wife's birthday. It's light, portable, easy to adjust. Perfect as a second bino for travel or for a first bino, because it performs as well as binos costing twice as much. You can buy a better bino, but it would cost over $1000 and would be a real financial loss if it got stolen or lost.
REAL binoculars

Having broken into my 40s, I thought it was time to get a "real" pair of binoculars -- that is, a pair I didn't buy at a discount department store. I got my Monarch 8x36 ATBs from my local Audubon chapter store (I discovered Eagle Optics soon afterward while searching the net for a harness and tethered objective covers).
To a casual birder who's only used the cheapest of optics for 20+ years, the Monarchs were a revelation! Even with the smaller 36mm objective, these are the brightest binos I've ever owned. Sure, I wanted the 40mm's (that were out of stock), but now I'm entirely happy with the trade-off for slightly lighter weight and more compact size.
How can you go wrong with fully multi-coated lenses, phase correction, and Bak-4 prisms? The less-dexterous among us (ok, we the clumsy) really appreciate the rubber armor and sturdy waterproof/fogproof construction.
Since getting the Monarch's I've come to own a few other moderately-priced mid/entry level binoculars that boast similar specifications, but none really compare to these Nikons.
When I compared the view through these binoculars with a pair of Swarovskis, naturally the Swarovskis were better, but not a thousand dollars better, at least not to my untrained eyes (or maybe I was just keeping my eyes more clearly focused on my wallet).
great Nikon binoculars but watch out for your rebate

Purchased a pair of great Monarch binoculars from Cabela's. I highly recommend the scope, but the rebate of $50.00 is disappointing. I waited 2 and 1/2 months and still have yet to see my rebate. I didn't save any money; I still recommend the Monarch for beginning bird watchers. It is easy to use and have high quality lenses.
