Best binocular for the money - 10/20/2010

by Gary from Kingwood, Texas

I would not have bought binoculars this large and heavy because of the neck strain normally encountered after a long day of bird watching. However, with the advent of the binocular harness, I decided to see if I could upgrade from the 8x40s I normally use. In combination with a harness, neck strain has been largely eliminated and even my youngest daughter finds them easy and painless to use and she won't go back to 8x40s. I find the additional magnification gained to be useful and the light gathering for these wide angle binoculars is very good. I get a crisp, clear, well lighted view that has exceeded my expectations. Cons are that the vision balance is easily moved and requires frequent adjustment and the lens become covered with condensate for about 15 minutes when moving from a car or building to the outside with a large temperature difference, especially in humid environments. However, I have found this is to be expected with binoculars in this price range. I have been so delighted that I have purchased 5 pairs in order to enhance the outdoor experiences that I introduce to my friends and family, at a cost I can afford.
