Optics good, Ergonomics lacking - 11/05/2010

Lets start with the positive. For the most crucial element, optical quality, these binoculars are very good. Clear, crisp, and with a really wide field of view.

Unfortunately, as good as the optics are, I found the user design features lacking. The "comfort bridge" did not fit my (large) hands comfortably, the focusing knob is really bulky, and I found the binoculars slow to focus.

I tested four pair of binoculars in the same range as the Minox before I made my final purchase decision. They came in third. The Minox warranty was the worst in the group.

I got a "demonstrator" at a significantly reduced price ($329) and there is no way to tell it from factory new. This binocular has very nice combination of power, size, weight, field of view, and optical clarity. The one disappointing factor is that focus at infinity is not "automatic" at full extension, but I guess you've got to pay another $1,000 for that feature.
