Who knew a high-performance, top-quality binocular could weigh in at a comfortable 25.6 ounces? Made in Germany, the Minox APO-HG blends the quality of old-world craftsmanship with the newest technology available. Minox worked with glass engineers to perfect the glass composition for the Schott fluoride ED glass lenses. The apochromatically-corrected binoculars deliver a brilliant image free from color fringing. A single turn of the focus knob brings you from close-up to infinity, and a scale on the focus wheel measures the distance to the subject in your view. The Minox APO HG comes in an exclusive wooden box with an elegant leather case and the Minox 30-year limited warranty.

Not all I'd hoped for - 07/26/2015

I compared these with several 8x42 binoculars. Although excellent in most respects, there were two things I did not like. The first was the extremely short depth of field, which made for somewhat uncomfortable viewing. The second was the need to twist up the eye piece in order to unlock the right eye diopter. Being a glasses wearer, this made adjusting the diopter unnecessarily inconvenient. I much preferred the Vortex Razor HD's, on which the diopter could be unlocked with the eyepiece fully retracted, had a longer depth of field, were lighter, handier, otherwise optically equivalent, and cost several hundred dollars less.

Too much CA for the price - 07/25/2015

I checked these out along with quite a few other binoculars in 8x32. My conclusion is that they are excellent in nearly every respect save one. I do a lot of looking at white seabirds and other white waterfowl in bright sunlight against dark bluewater backgrounds, so I am very sensitive to chromatic aberration. Lacking the APO features of the upgraded HG models, these do not do an adequate job of reducing the color fringing one sees in such situations. A number of less expensive binoculars do a much better job in this respect. For example, the Vortex Viper HD, which is extremely close in sharpness and other characteristics, but which is about half the price.

Love these binoculars! - 12/02/2013

First of all, Minox is a German company that was a subsidiary of Leica, but has been independent since 2001. Minox uses glass from Schott. Schott is a subsidiary of Carl Zeiss.

The brightness and crispness of these Minox APO-HG 8x43 are first class. The APO-chromatic lenses eliminate chromatic aberration, resulting in sharper image quality and a brighter truer color. Focus is fast with razor sharpness. Comfort level is top-notch using my eyeglasses or not.

These weigh only 23oz. and fit well into my man-sized hands. They weigh less because they are manufactured from magnesium, which is stronger and lighter than aluminum.

Apo-HGs are Minox’s bid to compete with the finest binoculars available today and (must I say), at a more reasonable price for similar in class.
