A very good binoc for the money - 09/19/2009

It used to be not uncommon to find decent optics in inexpensive porro designs, but said binocular invariably suffered from relatively flimsy construction, fragile enough that they could break or get knocked out of alignment with even careful use.

Not so the Yosemites. I have been using them since they first came out with an 8x version. These binoculars are optically decent while being tough enough to survive many hard knocks. They are also inexpensive enough that I can leave them in my car without worrying too much.

The waterproof feature is an added plus, in fact mine did not fog internally at all during a recent visit to the 100%-humidity-all-the-time climate of Costa Rica (where I brought them as loaners and a backup to my premium roofs).

In fact I like the Yosemites so much that I am on my third pair, having given the previous two away to relatives. Cheap enough to give away, but good enough and well enough constructed to give away as gifts.

Leupold Yosemite 8x30 - 07/15/2009

The Leupold Yosemite is a best buy in a mid-sized binocular. Although many people believe porro prism binoculars to be the "old type" and roof-prism designs to be superior, the Yosemite proves that the porro design is alive and well. It offers a sharp and user-friendly image, comfortable ergonomics and a relatively light weight, as well as a wider interpupilary range than most binoculars, so it can be easily used by children, adults with close eyes and/or small faces and hands, and most adults. For the price it's a no-brainer. Also see the 6x30 version, which is as sharp and slightly brighter.
