New Leica Trinovid - 08/26/2015

by Utku P. from New York

I think this is a good update of old Leica Trinovid. I really like the shape, it is comfortable in the field. Close focus is better than mentioned in the manual. It is about 2.5 meters. Sharpness looks fine, I compare it with the Swarovski SLC and could not see any major difference. I think Leica did very nice job and I highly recommend new Leica Trinovid for birdwatchers. By the way, I had a great service from Eagle Optics. Thanks a lot...!

Decided to treat myself and move up from Nike. What a difference in optics!

High quality and performance - 12/27/2013

I'm very satisfied with this binocular. It's very sharp and has a nice vibrant image, great contrast. CA or color fringing is corrected very well (essentially absent) in the center of the image. The image quality is excellent, but I am even more satisfied with the design and build. It has very nice smooth rubber armour and nice fit and feel in my hands. Excellent focus and diopter.
The diopter is the best I've seen. I was initially concerned about the weight, but it actually doesn't feel too heavy since the weight is balanced well. This is my first Leica binocular and I am impressed. Overall, it is an excellent binocular and a keeper for me. I've used it a few times so far for bird watching and it performed very well. Before I purchased the Trinovid, I had a hard time finding user reviews. There are only a few. So, I've decided to put a few reviews out there myself. I was a bit perplexed by the somewhat negative reviews here. I felt I should mention how good this binocular is.

too expensive - 11/20/2013

these work OK most of the time. I saw a lot of purple fringing on back lit surfaces, not cool at 1400 bucks. Otherwise they are sharp and are well made. I expected better for something that is supposed to be so much improved.

They're ok - 03/28/2012

I was very excited to get these bins. Picked one up about a week after they came out. However, when they arrived I was very disappointed with its performance. When compared side by side with my old pair of fujinon CD's (~$250.00) they are only marginally brighter and about the same on sharpness. The leica's did have a better field of view. The rubber armor seemed very flimsy especially around the shaft. This is not the tank that the Trinovid used to be. You would be better off coughing up a couple extra hundred and getting a pair of Swaro's or Ultravids.

Overall...not a good value
