The Genesis 8.5x44 binocular is alpha material in my book. Sharp, clear and no CA I could find.

How can it get better than this? - 06/30/2014

by Roberto P. from Marietta GA

I have two mid-range binoculars that I use for backyard birdwatching: Nikon Monarch 3's and MINOX BL's. Both very nice. I'd heard Kowa made excellent product, their corporate website makes them seem like the sort of geeky, engineering-driven company that I'd prefer to do business with for optics. No flash, no advertising forays into how cool I'd become if I owned their gear, just descriptions, and explanations. I saw the Genesis 8.5x44 demos available at a bargain price, so I sent my brother over the EO store for a quick field test. He reported that they compared very favorably to some of the $(4-figure) products they had available in the display case, so I went ahead and bought them. 30 days to return if my brother was mistaken so how could I go wrong? He wasn't wrong - these are in another league entirely compared to what I was used to. Just by luck I had the opportunity to visit the store & repeat his test against the top-price units. Oh, yes sir, I conclude that these are near-perfect in every way that matters....
I saw the Genesis 10.5x44's come up as demos on the website shortly thereafter, so I bought those, too. My wife even agreed that it was a good idea - and it's not like we have vast amounts of disposable income - so in a way, these binoculars promote marital harmony in addition to their jaw-dropping price/performance ratio. Nice!

Top quality, affordable price - 06/03/2014

Optically and mechanically, these binoculars easily hold their own against the best available from brands such as Swarovski, Leica, Zeiss, and Nikon. Particular attributes of note are the exceptional center-field sharpness, nearly unrivaled control of chromatic aberration, incredibly bright images, neutral or true-to-life color representation, excellent construction and build quality, and a focus-knob with near perfect tension and dampening. The only issues I believe one may find with these binos when compared to the very best are increased weight and a slightly smaller true field of view. These few negatives are quite minor, however, and the performance of these binos at their relatively lower price is truly outstanding.

Are these the best kept secret in bird watching? - 04/30/2014

by Steve L. from Indianapolis, IN

I spent six months deciding how to upgrade from my Atlas Intrepids. They had served me well but were an entry to bird watching so that if i didn't stick with it I was only out a little money. I went to the Optics Expo to buy either the Zeiss Conquest HD's or the Vortex Razors. The Kowa rep asked me to try the Genesis and it was soon clear that they were both brighter and sharper then the other two. I then tested them against the Zeiss HT and the Swarovski EL. I only had a cloudy overcast day to work with but I couldn't see a difference. I couldn't test at dawn or dusk where those two are supposed to be better but I am very happy with my choice. I highly recommend these and as always the Eagle Optics Staff were great.
