I just started birding and was given a list of bins that are good to buy ... The kowa bd 8/32 was on it under inexpensive models. Though at list of $485 that didn't seem inexpensive to me as who knows if I will pursue birding. Anyway I ordered these as a demo at a reduced price and am enjoying them (and birding). I can see no signs that they were used. They are small enough to carry on the neck strap. As I get used to them I have used them with and without glasses and both are fine. They are easy to adjust. I have had no problems spotting birds flying over water or in the trees. Eagle was good to deal with as I called to ask a question. They shipped fast. I could not be happier with this purchase.

My daily bins are Swarovision 8.5 x 42s. When my car was recently broken into and my trusty Nikon Monarch 5s stolen, I set out on a search for a compact, light, and reasonably-priced travel/car binocular.
The Kowa BDs blow the doors off of of the Sub-$500 8x32s I've tried, and at the demo price are an extreme bargain. Color, clarity, and detail are outstanding in head-to-head trials against the usual suspects. Yes, the Swarovisions are better, but they are also priced into the stratosphere, and the differences are not huge.
The only flaws I should point out in the Kowas are a bit of CA (fringing), especially in high-contrast situations at the edges of the field, cheap front element protectors (I will be ordering a set of Eagle Optics after-market objective protectors), and the marginal eye relief. My glasses frames sit pretty far from my eyes, and I take advantage of most of the Swaro's 20mm eye relief. I can deal with Kowa's 15mm relief, though, especially for non-daily use. If you don't wear glasses, don't worry about it -- with my contacts these are awesome.
In sum, these are very nice bins, especially for the price!
The best I've used

I have used many binoculars for birding or hunting or general use, this pair seems to stay with me always. They are compact but still comfortable to hold..not too heavy either. The view through them is the best of all my binos...I don't feel I'm sacrificing anything due to the smaller size. I never go anywhere without these binos.

FUJINON FMTR-SX 8X30 COME IN SECOND ON MY LIST FOR BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK IN 8X BINOS ALSO JUST UNDER $500 BUT HARD TO FIND NEW. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE
Very nice optics

Bought these for my girlfriend who had never used a decent pair of binoculars, nor had she every had a pair adjusted for her eyes. These are very nice binoculars, especially when you consider the price compared to the "alpha" binoculars such as, Leica, Swarovski and Zeiss. Good brightness, clarity and handling characteristics. Focusing is a little stiff, but is still smooth. Compared to my Zeiss Victory Fl 8x32 binoculars, the Kowas are not quite as bright or sharp, but the difference is not as great as the price difference would you lead you to believe.
Kowa BD 8x32 Binocular

Excellent binoculars!!! I've had mine almost 3 years now and I'm still lovin' 'em. Less than 20oz makes them easy to hang around my neck all day. The ergonomics makes them very easy and pleasant to handle. The optics are bright and clear. They allow me to view endlessly with NO eyestrain. Not like some to when you are done viewing it feels like your eyes are being pulled out of your head. I can compare them to the Pentax DCF SP 10X43 and the Zeiss Victory 8X20. They are a great in between to the other two mentioned. They have much better resolution than the Zeiss 8X20. One day while view about a mile across a lake I saw some colors that were not natural to the surroundings. I first peered through the 8x20 and confirmed the unnatural colors but could not see detail. when I looked at it through the Kowa 8x32s I saw a dad, mom, by a tent with two little kids playing in the water. Even thought the Pentax have great magnification and allow me to see further they are to big and heavy (when combined with enough stuff to last for a day's outing) to carry and use comfortably. The only other 8x32 I would consider are the Zeiss 8x32FL but since they are over $2000 I will stay within my budget without sacrificing quality.
As good as the best

This fine binocular rarely gets any acclaim. The build quality is as good as any top end Euro binoculars and the optics are bright with great contrast. I compared my Kowa with my high end Austrian 8x32 in early morning. Everything the top end could see so could the Kowa. Similar brightness and contrast. Truly even in every respect except the high price of the Austrian model. I highly recommend this binocular and no I do not work for Kowa. This binocular truly is that good.
