Thriller for a Birder! - 05/26/2016

by Sabra C. from Texas

I couldn't be more thrilled with the Shrike binoculars! My husband and I first experienced Eagle Optic binoculars during a birding hike at South Llano River State Park where all participates were given the Denali Eagle Optics to "borrow" during the bird hike. (If the experts at the State Parks are using/recommending Eagle Optics (we asked...), I figure this must be what we need!) Because the Denali model wasn't in our budget, we chose the Shrike model from Eagle Optics. We were aiming to receive them before celebrating our 20 yr. wedding anniversary with a trip to a hot spot to see migrating warblers- which are small and active enough to be easily missed with a camera. We checked amazon prime (because we are spoiled by their 2 day delivery), but ended up ordering directly from Eagle Optics-which ended up exceeding our expectations with their speedy delivery service and superior product. My husband and I wear reading glasses and birds have become a bit more difficult to see clearly so these binoculars have opened up a whole new world of color and detail to us! I'm not sure what the feature is called, but you can set the binoculars for viewing without glasses! Although we love all the details/features of these binoculars, we especially love this feature geared towards people who wear glasses or readers! For us, seeing the defining features of migrating warblers was like seeing in color for the first time. And, We were able to get up close and personal with the Roseate Spoonbill and even watch them take off in flight. (we found it easy to spot flying birds from quite some distance with these binoculars-think pink!) Even home in our backyard, watching our bluebirds every move has been a true joy. We can see the Lady Bluebird through her nesting hole (such a sweet face!) with these binoculars as well as keep an eye out for threats to her. This model makes telling the difference between house sparrows and finch a cinch. I've actually become quite dependent on these binoculars and use them at least once a day. My only complaint is that we only have one pair... and who knew I'd have to fight my husband over whose turn it is to use them?!! :)

Great binoculars for the price - 12/19/2015

by Dwight S. from Hastings, MN

I needed a pair of binoculars to have around the house for backyard birding. I didn't want to spend a fortune, but I was also looking for a reasonable quality roof-prism binoculars. The Shrike 8X42 binocs fit the bill perfectly. Couldn't expect better for the price; they are an excellent value. And now my wife, who is not a birder, has a pair to use when we hike together.

Thrilled! - 10/16/2015

by ksm from Peru, Indiana

I am a beginner birder and avid wildlife watcher and have been researching binoculars for awhile. I wanted a quality binocular but not too expensive. I also needed a binocular that would work with my eyeglasses. Several online reviews led me to Eagle Optics and to the Shrike 8x42 especially, because of the longer eye relief (which is important if you wear glasses). I am thrilled! They are beautiful and feel good in my hands. And the lenses are amazing. They do indeed work well with my glasses, but I also find that there is enough focus control for me to use them without my glasses on (and I am wicked nearsighted). I'm still getting used to using them -- finding the right place to point them when I bring them to my eyes; turning the focus wheel the correct direction to adjust (and birds don't stay still long enough!) -- but I am having a grand time! I have even been getting a good look at the moon and plan to venture into "binocular astronomy." I highly recommend these binoculars.

Amazing for the money - 03/03/2015

by Richard N. from Point Richmond, CA

I bought these for my grandson's 7th birthday (I hope to make a birder out of him) but of course I checked them out thoroughly before passing them on. This is a very nice binocular for the price and will make an excellent first pair for my grandson. I'm considering another pair to have as a back-up. Eagle Optics continues their tradtion of excellence!

Binoculars - 03/01/2015

by Cheryl R. from Colorado

I just wanted to thank you for the speedy delivery of my Shrike Binoculars. I purchased them for a trip I just took to Costa Rica, I really wanted to be able see the wildlife with ease and clarity. These Binoculars were very easy to handle and light weight to carry, I also was happy they were waterproof. Thank you again for this great product at a reasonable price.

Great pair for the price - 01/28/2015

by Sarah from Auburn, AL

I own a pair of binoculars for three times this price retail. I would rate them a 10/10 overall - it's hard to get better. These I would rate an 8/10 overall - there are some distortion problems around the edges and there's a bit of a halo effect. However, with price in mind, it's hard to get much better than this. If you have the money, spring for the Eagle Optics Rangers - they are top-quality and a great value. If you can't or don't want to spend that kind of money, the Shrikes will serve you well. The neoprene-padded strap and soft case that they come with are very nice, too.

Great Recommendation - 01/27/2015

by Fred W. from West Virginia

I purchased these binoculars as a recommendation by Dr. Scott Shalaway for bird watching. They are everything that he said they would be and perfect for watching the birds at my feeders this winter. Very user friendly and easy to setup. I am anxious to use them this summer while vacationing and traveling. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Great deal - 12/26/2014

These are great binoculars, as good as binoculars costing many times more. The image is clear and bright and the mechanisms are smooth.

Shrike Binoculars for Grandson - 12/03/2014

by Clem K. from Bellevue, NE

I have been a long time birder and recently found my young grandson is interested in birds. I purchased the Eagle Optics Shrike 8x42 Binoculars for his birthday and first pair of binoculars. I checked them out before they were given to him and found them to give a clear image, were easy to focus, and easy to adapt to various distances. My grandson, having never had a previous pair of his own, found them very easy to adjust to. Excellent binoculars for the price and beginners.

very good - 11/01/2014

by Donna S. from chandler, arizona

I purchased Eagle Optics Shrike 8x42 binoculars for a birding class I was taking. They worked great on the field trip and the instructor said that the Eagle Shrike are the loaners that they use.

I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend the binoculars to anyone needing birding binoculars.

These binoculars are a very good quality product. I highly recommend them to get the bang for your buck.

Good bin for the buck - 07/04/2014

by Beau from Illinois

This is a great binocular for the price, though I've only had it for a month so can't speak for its durability. It's focus is very clear and it is easy to use. The rain guards are very loose though, and need to be tied down. Focus is easy. The one big issue I have is that the field of view is distorted significantly for about a millimeter around the outer edge. This significantly reduces the field.

Great Glasses!!!! - 06/19/2014

by John C. from Glendale Heights, IL

We were first introduced to the Shrikes while participating in our first Bird Walk at Cantigny Park. I immediately purchased two of them for us. They are fabulous. Besides watching birds, I also enjoy watching airplanes through them. Very crisp and clean images. Thanks.

Saw the great price and read reviews on Eagle Website. Made the purchase to facilitate birding. This buy is even better than expected. Nice size and feel, easy adjustment, very clear optics, no mirage, and better than some friends more expensive binoculars. I am extremely pleased with this product. What a value!!

What to buy the son who has everything... - 05/13/2014

by Joan S. from Waterville, ME 04901

I took a birding class at Colby last spring and it was the consensus of those attending the class that the best buy for us beginning birders was the Shrike 8X42.O have enjoyed using my pair.

Since that time I have been giving books about birds to my grandchildren. With my son having a birthday this spring, I bought him the binoculars to use with for birding with his sons. He was very pleased to get them...

Nice binocs! - 04/01/2014

by Mombo6 from Michigan

We gave these binocs to our young daughter (8) who is becoming interested in birding. The optics look very good in them and she is enjoying having a decent pair. Maybe not quite as bright as a higher end binoc. Considering another pair down the road for one of our sons. Good quality for the price!
