Shrike Binoculars for Grandson - 12/03/2014

by Clem K. from Bellevue, NE

I have been a long time birder and recently found my young grandson is interested in birds. I purchased the Eagle Optics Shrike 8x42 Binoculars for his birthday and first pair of binoculars. I checked them out before they were given to him and found them to give a clear image, were easy to focus, and easy to adapt to various distances. My grandson, having never had a previous pair of his own, found them very easy to adjust to. Excellent binoculars for the price and beginners.

very good - 11/01/2014

by Donna S. from chandler, arizona

I purchased Eagle Optics Shrike 8x42 binoculars for a birding class I was taking. They worked great on the field trip and the instructor said that the Eagle Shrike are the loaners that they use.

I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend the binoculars to anyone needing birding binoculars.

Good bin for the buck - 07/04/2014

by Beau from Illinois

This is a great binocular for the price, though I've only had it for a month so can't speak for its durability. It's focus is very clear and it is easy to use. The rain guards are very loose though, and need to be tied down. Focus is easy. The one big issue I have is that the field of view is distorted significantly for about a millimeter around the outer edge. This significantly reduces the field.

Great Glasses!!!! - 06/19/2014

by John C. from Glendale Heights, IL

We were first introduced to the Shrikes while participating in our first Bird Walk at Cantigny Park. I immediately purchased two of them for us. They are fabulous. Besides watching birds, I also enjoy watching airplanes through them. Very crisp and clean images. Thanks.

My first binoculars and I now don't feel like I will need to purchase any others. I'm impressed by their optics especially after comparing with other more expensive units.

Eagle Shrike 8x42 - 05/21/2014

by Jim C. from MI

Saw the great price and read reviews on Eagle Website. Made the purchase to facilitate birding. This buy is even better than expected. Nice size and feel, easy adjustment, very clear optics, no mirage, and better than some friends more expensive binoculars. I am extremely pleased with this product. What a value!!

What to buy the son who has everything... - 05/13/2014

by Joan S. from Waterville, ME 04901

I took a birding class at Colby last spring and it was the consensus of those attending the class that the best buy for us beginning birders was the Shrike 8X42.O have enjoyed using my pair.

Since that time I have been giving books about birds to my grandchildren. With my son having a birthday this spring, I bought him the binoculars to use with for birding with his sons. He was very pleased to get them...

Nice binocs! - 04/01/2014

by Mombo6 from Michigan

We gave these binocs to our young daughter (8) who is becoming interested in birding. The optics look very good in them and she is enjoying having a decent pair. Maybe not quite as bright as a higher end binoc. Considering another pair down the road for one of our sons. Good quality for the price!

Eagle Optics Shrike - 03/26/2014

by Doug A. from Naches, WA

Recently purchased these to replace an older pair of Eagle Optics Voyager, which I have carried for the last 10 years or so. The Voyager is comparable to the Shrike as both are Eagle Optics lower end binoculars. In spite of their low price they are built with amazing quality, and who can match their guaranty. I will never own another brand except Eagle Optics. By the way my wife fell in love with the Voyagers, which is why I had to buy another pair of Binoculars in the first place.

Beginning Birder - 03/25/2014

by Chuck from Gainesville, FL

As an 82 year old beginning birder, I felt the need for a good pair of binoculars. After considerable research I reached the conclusion that the Eagle Shrike had all of the features I was looking for at an affordable price. I am a volunteer at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park in Florida. The Park is on the Florida Birding Trail. There have been sightings of 287 species of birds in the park, so I have had ample use of my new Shrike and I couldn't be more pleased. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good pair of binoculars for under $100.

Great value for money - 08/27/2013

For a beginning birder, these are excellent full size binoculars: Well constructed, lightweight, easy to handle, bright and crisp image, and under $100! I would highly recommend them.

I purchased these binoculars for my wife. She wears glasses and has a hard time finding binoculars. The other reviews here were very helpful and the binoculars have been great, she really likes them. I would certainly recommend them to others.

Excellent Value: More Pros than Cons - 05/08/2013

by Barry R. from Venice, FL

I bought a classroom set of the Eagle Optics Shrike 8 x 42 binoculars. It amazes me that for under $100 you can get a light weight, waterproof, full size binocular this well constructed. For high school age beginning birders this is more binocular than they need. The lenses are good, the field of vision is adequate and the body has an excellent feel. The cons are the lack of close focus and slightly tight focus wheel. The pros are light weight, easy to handle, better lens caps than more expensive models (such as Nikon Monarch), twist up eye piece, and an excellent warranty. Anyone on a budget should give these binoculars a serious try. I give them my highest recommendation if you are on a budget, and in general rate them very good. Serious birders could leave a pair in your car at all times as a backup. You will not find a better binocular for under $100 period.

Shrike 8x42 - 05/01/2013

by Iris C. from Massachusetts

Very clear image, well-made, sturdy, and with the Eagle optics care guarantee. Amazing at the price, couldn't imagine better. Feel grateful to have such a great pair of binoculars that I can afford, and have been recommending it to everyone.

Very pleased - 04/13/2013

by Rolf from California

I have used these in the field a couple of times since getting them a few weeks ago. I am pleased with the brightness of the image with these lenses and love the rotating eye cups for glasses wearers. Good value for the price. I look forward to using them for years to come.

My favorite binoculars - 02/18/2013

by Rennie T from West Virginia

In the short time that I have owned these binoculars, they have become my favorite pair. I use them for bird watching and they are clear and crisp, allowing great detail, even on birds a good distance away. I'm thinking about buying another pair for my wife so she won't keep borrowing mine.

My Eagle Optics, one of my dearest companions! - 01/15/2013

by Courtney C. from New Hampshire

I bought my first pair of Eagle Optics 8x42 Platinum Ranger Class binoculars years ago when I was living in Zambia. And over the years they have been my dearest companion. I have looked through many binoculars and scopes over the years, and for whatever reason, my binoculars are unsurpassed. On a recent Audubon bird count we were looking for the peregrine falcon's roost, I found it...though i didn't say anything (because there is always enough "first footers" in any group of birders), but when I had the opportunity to view it through what I expect was a very expensive scope, I saw the image no clearer. I guess it was at the moment that I felt so blessed to be the owner of binoculars that were everything I wanted a)excellent quality b)excellent viewing c)not pretentious d)affordable.
My binoculars, made buying my 12 year old son, and my sister (a biology university student) the shrike the best gift in the world! The shrike is a very inexpensive binocular for quality that, not quite, but almost lives up to my platinum ranger version. I highly recommend these binoculars. I am an eyeglass wearer, and it is nothing short of amazing what it is to look through Eagle Optic Binoculars.

Great Buy - 09/11/2012

by Harlan from Knoxville, TN

I recently purchased a pair of Eagle Optics Shrike binoculars for my wife. We both are bird feeders and watchers. She believes they are the best binoculars she has ever owned for the money. I thought so too and bought me a pair as well. We are both enjoying the clarity of vision and ease of use while wearing glasses. Eagle Optics was fantastic with advice. We are very happy with our purchase. Buy a pair. You will love them too.

I am really enjoying my new binoculars and am so happy I purchased them.

Excellent Value, Very Functional - 09/05/2012

by Bill from Newburyport MA

I purchased this binocular in advance of volunteering at a golf tournament. I was going to have to identify players in the distance and follow their golf balls in flight. Because I have vision problems and wear glasses with prisms in them I have never been able to get a binocular to work comfortably. The difference between this binocular and others I have tried are the retractable sites, which enable you to put the binocular magnifying lens right on your glasses. This made my experience with the binocular excellent.

The only thing I can complain about is that they don't open as wide as I would like them to, thereby not accommodating fully my eye separation. Still comfortable enough.

Magee Marsh - 07/10/2012

by paul from ohio

I had heard of Eagle Optics binoculars from the owners of Birdwatcher's Digest, when I attended a class they taught on birding; but it was not until visitng Magee Marsh on Lake Erie that I experienced your binoculars; the staff at the visitor's center loaned us a pair of the Shrikes, and I was sold! we purchased 4 for our family members and ourselves when returning home; thanks for a great product

Great! - 06/14/2012

by DAVID from Syracuse NY

I purchased the Shrike 8x42 Bino's for my wife. We are occasional birders. It was time to go beyond the $19.95 stuff and see what we were missing. I looked at glasses around this price range in local sporting goods stores but was not satisfied. I took a chance on Eagle Optics and am very glad I did. The difference is remarkable! My wife is very, very happy to finally be able to see such details on the birds. I have already recommended these to all our friends. I don't know what $300+ binos would do, but for the price I would say that these are tops for beginners and occasional bird watchers. I will be buying another pair for myself.
PS. Customer service was also great, and very helpful. Thanks to you all.
