Tough Enough - 07/28/2010

My son was a Ranger infantry officer with the 10th Mountain Division for 3 deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. He carried a pair of Eagle Optics Platinum Plus binoculars (attached to a shoulder harness) most every day he was in the field. As you can imagine, these binoculars now look terrible, but optically and functionally, they are as good as ever. They have definitely stood up to more abuse than we birdwatchers could ever apply. He is now on his fourth tour, but this time as a Kiowa pilot...so now the Rangers are flying ...not walking.

Great insect watching glasses - 07/25/2010

I am an owner of Leica Ultravid 10x42 binoculars and of course love them for bird watching. However, I needed a glass that could focus closer when on odonate and butterfly outings. I tried a pair of close focusing mini binoculars and they worked well for sitting bugs but were very poor for following flying insects and were useless for bird viewing. I recently tried a pair of the Ranger SRT 8X 32 binoculars and I have been very pleased with the optics and field of view. They work great for following fast flying odonates and getting very close looks at difficult skippers. I even find them pretty darn good for watching other wildlife including birds. I highly recommend them as a second pair of binoculars or a primary pair if you don't want to or can't invest a small fortune on the top of the line glasses.

Almost lost my eyes - 07/12/2010

Using for the first time, we were on a trip to the northwest..tent camping in the Badlands, Big Horns, zooming in on meadowlarks, mule deer, moose... Then we got to Glacier and had just focused in on a bufflehead on this little lake when we decided to go see who was winning the World Cup. 24 hrs. later, we're packing up and something very important is missing. Can't find them anywhere. They had to be in the bar at McDonald Lake Lodge. Panic set in, literally hundreds of people were in that bar, in the lodge as well.. the front desk clerk said "Yep, we've got one pair of binocs." Trust in man's humanity remains intact and the sharp clear focus of these 8 x 32's will never get away from me again. They are steady, easily adjusted from one person to the next, can't say enough good about them.
