Compact binoculars with a great value! - 01/19/2012

by Ron from Dallas, TX

I was looking for a binocular to carry during casual walks and other times when my 8x42 bins would be too bulky and heavy. I figured the reduced magnification and loss of some detail would be offset by the lighter weight, smaller footprint and less image shake.

I discovered that these EO bins did not come up short on resolution. The view shows crisp details and excellent color fidelity. Bright whites show up exactly that, bright white. Contrast is great. The SRTs handle well and the twist up eye cups do not collapse. They smoothly focus from 6 ft. to infinity in about 1 turn with no play. They also have good depth and only slight curvature of field.

There are a few minor negatives:
1) The minimum 58mm inter-pupillary adjustment may not be
sufficiently narrow for some people, especially young children.
2) These bins focus down to about 3 ft., but with quite a bit of
doubling. The last 3 ft. takes about 1/2 a turn, which is slow.
On the other hand, I don't ever recall needing to focus on an
object only 3 feet away.
3) The focus knob sticks a bit when turned fully CCW. This may be a
sample issue. However, since it's more than 1/4 turn beyond
infinity, it hasn't been a problem during normal use.

The 6x32 SRTs have a solid feel and quality construction. They are extremely durable. Although they are a 6x binocular, I've haven't felt the need to switch to a higher power any time when birding. Plus the lower power seems to reduce fatigue.

Aside from birding, these bins would serve great for hunting, sport viewing, and make an ideal travel bin.

I've dealt with Eagle Optics through many purchases and their backing is the best. The 6x32 SRTs reflect EOs dedication to quality.

The EO Ranger SRTs are definitely keepers and will be used often.
I rated them 5 stars since they perform far beyond my expectation.

A great deal - 01/18/2012

by Steve from Rochester NY

I bought these binoculars when my favorite pair of 8X32 Vortex ones were stolen out of my car. At first I was wondering if I would miss the 8X optics, but a chance to upgrade my optics at a great sale price sealed the deal. And they work great, I found the 6X32 Rangers very easy to use with one hand while deer hunting and canoeing which is my primary use for these binoculars. And the optics are so sharp and bright with great eye relief for my glasses. Also, I enjoy doing business with the nice folks at Eagle Optics, this is my third purchase from them.

SRT 6x32 - 01/04/2012

by john from Ashland Oregon

I took them out birding for two hours today and I've returned with a big grin. What a pleasure to use.

I think these are much better for me than my new Monarch 3's. I was able to resolve colors on some Acorn Woodpeckers that I had missed with the Monarch's and at 2x less power. The view was much more comfortable, likely due to the increased FOV and steadiness of holding 6x and IMO the sweet spot optical quality is just better. I was able to see more and enjoy what I saw more. I also loved the size and feel of them much more than my Nikons. For me they were so crisp and clear in the sweet spot and I never quite felt it with the Monarch's and it was more like the view I got looking through some much more expensive Kowa's I tried at a Nature Shop. And with the much wider FOV than my Nikons I was easily able to follow flying Rufus Hummingbirds which I've never been able to do with the Monarch's. I was also able to follow easily a Jackrabbit my dogs kicked up in heavy brush and follow him in and out of a real tangle of blackberry and willow. Really really fun. Wide FOV rules in deep woods and brush.

I the lower power makes a big difference when climbing hills and half out of breath. Being able to hold them rock steady made it easier for me to see things with the 6x that were more difficult with the 8x. Especially due to the fact that I'm walking uphill a lot and breathing hard. If I have one objection for these wonderful binoculars it would be that the softness out to the edge is noticiable for me. The sweet spot is large and super crisp but it seems to fall off rather quickly outside of that and they are not as crisp to the edge as my Sightron"s or Fury's and I'm giving them a four star rating due to that one weakness. (this might not matter or even be noticeable for you)

Anyway at the sale price they are a great value. Their compact size, clear center optical quality, light weight, great ergonomics and great looks make them a certain keeper and I highly recommend them.

Perfect for thick woods hunting. - 11/22/2011

by Leo from Northeast New England

Bought these binocs (6x32)to use mainly for still hunting. Previous binocs had too much magnification for thick woods(8x32 Steiner predators). With the lower power you can use with one hand, and have much better clarity and stability.
Very good in low light conditions. I wish they came with the lens coatings my predators have( highlight the colors of animal fur), but these binocs are very clear and crisp.
With or without glasses these binocs show a perfect window of view every time. Looking forward to many good hunts with them!

Great Value - 07/01/2011

This instrument is a close second to my all-time favorite general purpose binocular, the Swift Eaglet 7x36. The Ranger's focus is not the effortless, silky-smooth of the Eaglet, but the Ranger has a wider field of view. The Swift still feels more comfortable in my hands, but not by much! The Ranger is a bit lighter than the Swift, while the dimensions are very close. The same tethered caps supplied on the Ranger's 32mm objectives also fit the Eaglet's 36mm perfectly; I know, because I lost the original Eaglet caps and ordered the tethered caps as replacements. Obviously, the outside diameters of the objective tubes must be very close to the same. I favor lower powered binoculars for general birding (6x-7x); they give a brighter view with a given objective diameter, and they give less magnification to body movement. The Ranger's eye relief easily accommodates my no-line bifocals. The incredible minimum focusing distance allows wonderful viewing of butterflies and dragonflies. The view through this binocular is bright, clear, and sharp. In addition to all its other wonderful characteristics, this instrument is waterproof. I was introduced to the Eagle Optics house brand by an old friend that had been a state ornithologist for 20 years. I suspect, but cannot prove, that many Eagle Optics binocular models are rebranded Vortex.

Great Binocular - 10/16/2010

Football is a passion, and these binoculars are terrific for watching the game. I highly recommend them to any sport enthusiast. Eagle Optics sent them in record time...what a great company.

Eagle Optics Ranger - 03/29/2010

by Harold from X

My friend and I first saw the Ranger Binoculars at a birding weekend at Paul Smith's College in upstate New York. They were highly recommended and we tried out a pair there. My friend gave me a pair for Christmas and I reciprocated on Valentine's day. Birding season has just started, so we are just beginning to use them, but so far they are terrific. Resolution and light gathering power are very nice and it is certainly easy to zero in on a bird. We especially like the shoulder harness. Took them on an eight mile hike and felt no neck pain or banging about.

Great optics! - 07/01/2009

by John A. Grant, Jr. from Poplarville, Mississippi

I have used the Eagle Optics Ranger 6X32 for hunting for a while now. They are light, compact, and very clear. I would not be without them in thick brush. I even take them to football games. A friend was looking through them one night at a game as I explained that they were very good, but weren't going to be sharp to the edge of the field of view as premium binoculars would be. He took exception to that and said they were very sharp to the edge. I looked again myself and he was right! They are surprisingly sharp right to the edge of the field of view. I have said many times that the 6X magnification is ideal for hunting, but it seems that most hunters want 12X or even more. They miss out on the wide (and sharp) field of view offered by the 6X Rangers.

Excellent for hunting - 01/12/2009

by John Grant from Poplarville, Mississippi

This is an excellent binocular, perhaps ideal, for hunting. It is small, light, bright, wide angle, and waterproof. Contrary to what many think, the six power magnification is almost always plenty in hunting situations, or, for that matter, bird watching, butterfly watching, etc. One hand is all I need to hold it steady while the other hand holds a bow or a rifle. I've used mine for two years and am completely pleased.
