Eagle Optics Golden Eagle HD 8X42 - 11/13/2012

by A Birder from Long Island, NY

Focus wheel much too difficult to operate. By the time I get a bird in focus, it's gone! I'm returning the binoculars.

Wow! I LIKE!! - 09/19/2012

by Brenda G. from Huntsville, Al

Just received my Golden Eagle HD binocs today and I am impressed. I've been birding for over 15 years using Nikon 10x40's. Last rainy day sealed it for me that I needed to upgrade to binoculars that were waterproof. My Nikons are quite old but they have been a reliable old friend, just not on rainy days. I've held out for years for Zeiss but it seems they are always out of my range price wise-especially now that the HD glass are available by lesser priced companies. My decision was whether to go with Zeiss Conquest HD for close to $1000 or the Eagle Optics Golden Eagle for close to $600. I chose the Eagle Optics Golden Eagle HD.

I love the size and feel in the hand, they are at least 2 ounces lighter in weight than my old Nikons. The thumb indent is perfect, I like the ridges on top for grip. This time I went with 8 power instead of 10 as I've got a little shake but I really can't tell much difference as far as that goes. I can actually hold them with one hand and get a great view.

Two things are just amazing to me 1. Close focus down to 5.1 ft!! Unbelievable! and 2. Light transmission under tree canopy. I can really see how my Nikons were failing me in that area. And the light from these Eagles are what I remember Zeiss' forte was when I used a friends for a few minutes years ago. Now I don't know if the new Zeiss Victory HT's will blow these out of the water but for $2200 I'm not tempted to find out.

Tomorrow out of the yard and into the woods, lets see how my NEW friend does on these confusing fall warblers!
