Superb Safari tool - 07/09/2014

by JD Y from Dallas, TX

I purchased the Celestron Granite ED 9x33 binocular for our safari to the African Serengeti. Over the course of two weeks safari, the Granite proved to be a great binocular. The Granite is lightweight, compact, quick to deploy and provides remarkable optical clarity in all light conditions. On several occasions I looked up from the lenses expecting to see the animals I was viewing nearby, only to discover that they were a half mile downrange! This product compares very favorably with products costing three times more (I got to sample a few of our companions' binoculars).

I bought these to fill a very small gap in my bino collection. They have become a favorite 'go to'
carry bino. They are not the best of anything, but very good at everything in its class.
High points are: optics, field of view, weight, handling and ease of use. Despite one review I read, I would think its depth of view is above average, not average, for a 9X roof. I love these and use them far more than some of my more expensive binos.
Low points: Annoying objective lens covers. If you want great low light function, move up to a 42 or 50.
Overall: A great birding, wildlife, safari, and general use bino. Best buy. My rating considers the price.
