I was excited to find a good pair of field binos with an IPD that would fit! Very happy with their performance and viewing clarity; and thrilled they still work well (no fogging or damage) after being slammed by a wave out in the research boat. My only complaint is that the lens caps don't fit tightly and keep falling out - haven't lost one yet but worried that I will. Otherwise they are great, lightweight, crisp binoculars for a reasonable price.
Even Better Than I Anticipated
Chris from U.S.
I read a number of reviews, compared specs, and decided this would be a good choice for my in-the-car-knock-around binocular. I purchased them mostly for astronomy, but also will take them to look at most anything.
The very wide field of view is fantastic and I consider it one of the best features. It fits well in my hands (I have smaller hands), eye relief is great for viewing through glasses, and the focus is smooth.
The view is bright and sharp across most of the field (it drops off at the edges like all binoculars). For my use, it is almost perfect.
My only complaint is the IPD adjusts too easily. They won't stay put where you like, so I am readjusting them every time I pick them up.
Granite ED 8x42, Great glass, especially for the price.

The Celestron Granite 8x42 certainly has some great features and technical specs, comparable with those of much higher-priced binoculars. I decided to give them a try as I wanted a waterproof glass to bring on a trip to Ecuador. I was immediately impressed with the bright, crisp image and in subsequent use during the last three weeks in the western US I have been more than satisfied. Celestron has demonstrated that it is not necessary to break the bank in order to have some fine optics. No doubt you'll see the difference, particularly in the outer edge of the field when you compare these with the hige priced class of binos but I haven't found it to be any problem.
I was so happy with these that I ordered the 10x42 but did not find the same clarity and sharpness, at least in the ones I got, so they were returned.
Not what I expected
Holly P. from Beaufort, NC
I did a fair amount of research leading up to my purchase of a new pair of binoculars including reading many reviews and comparisons of various products and doing a live chat with Eagle Optics. These seemed to be what I was looking for: close IPD, short close focus, reasonable quality at a reasonable price. However, I was disappointed--the binoculars seemed heavy, unbalanced and awkward in my hands. Also, the focus knob moved clockwise for closer focus rather than the opposite direction. Eagle Optics was great about processing my return quickly for a full refund.
Celestron Granite 8x42 binocular review
Mary from greater Boston area, MA
I purchased this pair of binoculars after reading a number of reviews about it as well as similar models. I use it primarily for birding, and so far I like it quite a lot. The focus is easy and quick, and once set, it stays focused. It is slightly heavier than my previous pair, but one advantage of the weight is that it does not bounce around much when I walk. The only thing I don't particularly care for is the neck strap. it seems very thick and stiff, but perhaps because it is new.
very good binoculars
J. Staples from Nashville, TN
I bought these as my first pair of good-quality binoculars for novice birding. They are easy to use with clear optics and a rapid focus. The weight is reasonable for non-compact binoculars, and they are easy to hold and adjust even though I have a lot of arthritis in my hands. The only drawback I've found is that the straps do not snap on and off for easy use with the harness. I have enjoyed them so far and would definitely recommend them.
