A great steady view in unsteady hands - 08/29/2013

by Ronald R. from Lincoln, Massachusetts

For many years I have been thinking of purchasing a pair of image stabilized binoculars. As I have aged the shaky image seen through regular binoculars of eight power or higher magnification has been frustrating, especially when trying to pick out details of birds and animals and the night sky.I chose the Canon Image Stabilized 10x42LWP Binocular for it's ability to focus down to about 8 feet, which it easily accomplishes. The rubber eye cups that adjust by turning are a great feature as they retain their setting.Likewise these binoculars are easy to use when wearing glasses, as the 16mm eye relief is very versatile. The same for the right eye diopter adjustment which is easy to set and then disengage. The weight is not a problem.

Incredible Binoculars - 12/10/2010

I have been using binoculars for astronomy for over 40 years. Having used literally all of the top rated astronomy binoculars, I can honestly say that these are without a doubt the finest 40 to 50 mm class binoculars available. Even without the image stabilization they are among the very best. They easily best the vaunted Fujinon 10x50 FMT-SX in resolution, brightness and sheer ergonometric ease of use. They do have a few minor quirks like refocusing the right diopter after the image stabilization settles, but these are minor quibbles at best. Add the stabilization to the superb optics and they make other high-end binoculars obsolete. I would buy them again in a heartbeat!!

See what you've been missing - 08/31/2009

The image stabilization feature greatly improves one's ability to discern details, even at 10x magnification. Plus, you get a very bright, crisp, high-contrast image and a wide field of view. It's easy to locate what you're looking for. These are improved over older generations in that they are waterproof and consume much less power. They are somewhat bulkier and heavier than non-stabilized binocs, but I'd never trade that for the rock-steady image you get.
