The Swarovski spotting scope is one of the few high-end scopes on the market that employs a helical-style focuser—a ring or band around the center of the spotting scope's body. In my experience, this style of focusing system offers advantages for both observing and digiscoping. When birding and digiscoping in a habitat where distances to individual birds are highly variable, I find that I can change the focus much more rapidly, and with greater control, with the helical versus conventional knob-style focuser. The feel of the helical-style focusing system recalls a telephoto lens and gives digiscoping a more intuitive photographic feel in the field.
