Birders' Exchange is a cooperative program helping with the conservation of Neotropical migrant and resident birds throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Founded by Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences and administered by the American Birding Association, this program aims to supply binoculars, spotting scopes, tripods, and field guides to researchers, conservationists, and educators in the tropics.
Biologists, naturalists, park rangers, teachers, and guides throughout Latin America and the Caribbean face the daily reality of trying to do their work without essential field tools such as binoculars, spotting scopes, and field guides. Some of the work is with unique and threatened species, but it is difficult for these people to practice the science required to protect birds and their habitats with such limited resources. That's where Birders' Exchange helps out.
Since first collecting optics, Birders' Exchange has distributed materials to more than 200 groups in 34 countries. Birders' Exchange continues to collect used and new binoculars, spotting scopes, tripods, camera equipment, and field guides for distribution among researchers and educators in Latin America and the Caribbean. Birders' Exchange also solicits financial support to purchase ornithological texts and specialized equipment for these researchers.
